CLARIFICATION : The Trevor Project's hotline will still be live. But basically this means LGBTQ people can no longer be connected to it through the US national 988 suicide prevention hotline. They will need to be contacted DIRECTLY So spread this around They can be texted. They can be called.

🚨 There’s a lot of horrific news out of Washington right now—but you might have missed this: Senate Republicans just introduced a plan to sell off 120 million acres of our public lands. Let me break down what’s in the bill and why it’s a full-scale land grab. 🧵

Block Club is saying 75,000 people marched in the Chicago “No Kings” protest.

Seen (heard) today during the "No Kings" protest march in Chicago: people inside the federal Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago tapping along as marchers pass by outside. The tapping is loud enough that it can be heard above the protestors' cheers and chants.

the story today is of a profoundly low energy military parade being met with millions of americans in nationwide protests denouncing the dictatorial pretensions of the president

The neighborhood is getting ready for tomorrow

ICE is going to parks in Los Angeles and kidnapping nannies who are caring for small children The children are witnessing these kidnappings and being held in custody until their parents are contacted Women and children in parks

“Tesla’s driverless ‘robotaxis’ could launch in Austin as soon as June 22. But a demo in Austin today showed a $TSLA, manually driven to test its Full Self-Driving system, failed to stop for a child-sized dummy at a school bus—and hit it.” @cbsaustin @velez_tx

Apparently this happened on the BNSF line, just before the Outbound Afternoon Rush mind you!

i understand the framing, which is about RFK jr lying to a senator to get senate approval but RFK jr also lied to the american public just completely unacceptable for a public official and senator bill cassidy is not the only one who should take action for being lied to

The idea we should behave in such a way that the Trumpists will not portray us as dangerous/ lawless/ violent is a silly idea, because they always portray us that way and no amount of curtseys and rolling over and playing dead will change that. So people might as well speak up and stand strong.

The weird, often whitewashed way the civil rights movement is taught (or not taught) seemed to convince a lot of people that nonviolence was met with nonviolence, instead of you know, dogs, hoses, beatings, death, etc

Well this couldn’t have come at a better time www.bbc.com/news/article...

RIP Josie Carter who led the resistance against a group of Navy sailors who attempted to start a brawl against the queer patrons of the Black Nite. "We do not run from a fight. We do not run from anything."

a friend of mine shared this ai-generated "emotion wheel" and unfortunately i have been laughing my ass off at it for like 15 minutes now. today i am feeling Fnliinneon

"More people didn’t vote than the number of people who went to the polls for former Vice President Kamala Harris or President Donald Trump. We’re talking about 36% of the eligible voting-age population, which says a lot. It reflects just how disenfranchising and marginalizing the entire process is"

Let’s talk for a moment about some of the more subtle ways that the press acts as a mouthpiece for law enforcement. Actor Jonathan Joss was shot to death on Sunday. I don’t know what happened; I wasn’t there. But his husband said a homophobic neighbor shot him as part of an explicit hate crime. /1

I believe a crucial part of being a fully-realized human in 2025 is knowingly and joyfully hiding huge swaths of your life and experiences from the ever-gluttonous eyes of the Internet. It is also a genuinely meaningful act of personal resistance

A three-year-old brought me a bit of black paper. "Look", she said, "I found a piece of night!" We're all born poets, but slowly we forget.

So, as you might know, I have been in the process of tracking the activities of DOGE staff across the federal government. And now I've built an auto-updating website to browse the data It's not done (lots more content to write), but news is moving fast, so here it is dogetrack.info Enjoy!

“I see a lot of mathematical structures — geometry, patterns — in both math problems and weaving. The way I teach and interact with mathematical concepts definitely influences how I approach my art.” —Marilou Schultz, fourth-generation Diné weaver and math teacher

I keep getting asked if it’s legal to spend our campaign funds on food drives or our high school public service grants and the answer is YES. It is. Politicians and Democratic organizations need to use their coffers to help people NOW and fill in the gaps that Trump has created.

As @prisonculture.bsky.social says, “Hope is a discipline”.

today marks 40 years since Philadelphia police bombed the Black liberation group MOVE's home in West Philadelphia. 6 adults and 5 children burned to death. over 60 homes were destroyed from the resulting fire, and over 250 people left homeless. (resharing @kimkelly.bsky.social in @teenvogue.com)

I don’t mean to alarm anyone, but the orcas now have two F/A-18 Hornets

BREAKING: @aclu.org says Trump deported a child (U.S. citizen) with metastatic cancer without medication or consultation with physicians. This is the second child with cancer he's deported. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol... @rollingstone.com

This is so real lmaoooo "She booked a solo trip to Iceland while you were composing your <<good morning>> text" 😂😂

“Imagine a world where there are tool libraries in every neighborhood, and they’re third spaces for people to hang out without having to spend money,” she said. “There are potlucks to share food, and urban farms.” truthout.org/articles/no-...

Beyond the fact that I love this photo, I think about this concept ALL OF THE TIME. As an archivist, I am really conscious of the fact that it's likely we'll have a more robust understanding of the 18 and 19th centuries than of the 21st century. Why? PAPER. bsky.app/profile/doro...

you're not the boss of me

the thing I hate most about that rfk quote is that autistic lives have value and worth and beauty and dignity whether they are able to do the things other people do or not. no one is defined by ability or lack thereof and to frame divergence as lack is monster stuff, utterly godless

Two endangered Great Lakes piping plovers have been confirmed at Montrose Beach. One has been identified by his leg bands as Pippin, a bachelor male who hung out at Montrose in summer 2024. The second bird, as of publication time, had yet to be ID’d. to.wttw.com/3G5Pt4d

UPDATE: ICE is wildly unconcerned about where this man is and no one will tell me, his registered attorney. The universal answer so far is "let's wait and see where he ends up." This is deeply off. We would have more rights at this point if UPS had lost a pair of shoes I'd just bought from Zappos

NEW: ALA is going to court to stop the President’s attempts to illegally dismantle the Institute of Museum & Library Services. The President does not have the authority to destroy a federal agency. That's why we're taking action with our co-plaintiff @afscme.bsky.social. #ForOurLibraries (1/3)

I've always found it strange that some people don't understand that the choir ALSO needs to hear the sermon. The "preaching to the choir" thing has done a number on a lot of people. The choir ALSO needs uplifting in fact it's extremely important to ensure the continuation to the church.

How capitalism actually works: American product: $10 Chinese knockoff: $9 <Trump tariffs> Chinese knockoff now: $15 American product now also $15 for some reason.

- 32,809 have been arrested by Ice during Trump 2. - German tourist Jessica Brösche spent more than a month in detention, including eight days in solitary confinement, suffering one of the worst human rights violations - Rebecca Burke (UK) was trying to leave but was detained for 19 (!) days

I have tariffed the penguins that are on Heard Island and which you were probably assuming did not export goods forgive me they were taking advantage of us so cunning and so cold

CHICAGO, IL!!! Henry is a lovely FIV+ boy looking for a home! His adoption fees are FREE!!

This is what the titans of industry endeavored to achieve. They leveraged real resources and influence to enable these goals.

Betty Davis released her eponymous debut album ‘Betty Davis’ 52 years ago on April 2, 1973 | Listen to the album + revisit our tribute here:

There are trans Americans right now looking out at this world and wondering if anyone is going to stand up for them and for their simple right to exist. Well, I am. We are. We will.

After divorce, May Wilson moved to NYC at age 61 to be an artist. She threw legendary soirées in her Chelsea Hotel apt, became known as the "Grandma Moses of the Underground". At 70, she used a nude photograph of herself to make a stamp for mail art sent to friends. Untitled II (Portrait), 1967
