In today’s new #PeoplingBlog, Mohamed Kenawi discusses the work of the Endangered Archaeology of the Middle East and North Africa (EAMENA) Project and the important work they are carrying out documenting the endangered heritage of the region: peoplingthepast.com/2025/02/21/b...

Well my day has just been made with a surprise student gift!

Would you tune in to a podcast of my sister and I providing colour commentary for various beer league hockey games Y/N?

This goes so fucking hard dude

We are so excited to reveal the cover for “Ancient Pasts for Modern Audiences: Public Scholarship and the Mediterranean World” designed by the amazing @flaroh.bsky.social! 🤩 Pre-orders begin Feb 7th and the volume will be GOLD open access! Find out more here: www.routledge.com/Ancient-Past...

Beautiful skies over Winnipeg this evening

This was a very special season to record. In turns upsetting then inspiring, it deals with colonial legacies and how they have shaped our experiences with the ancient past. I can't wait to share the whole season, but for now, check out this preview:

Sundogs this morning. That wind has some bite to it 🥶 #winnipeg #sundog #photography

Just played my first game in goal since 1991 and I am going to be a whole new kind of stiff tomorrow. #Ringette

Happy 2025 everyone!🧡🌿🏺 I’m excited to spend this new year illustrating the ancient Mediterranean world, and also learning more about my own local folklore🌿 Any shares so i can reach my audience on this new platform are greatly appreciated 🧡🧡🧡 #artvsartist #illustration #ancientbluesky

Liv articulates much of how I feel about this critical lens in this excellent post. There is much to learn but as scholars of the ancient world we must tread with caution in using work that applies to more recent lives whose legacies are still being lived.

#AIASCS Happy to be back home already but saddened to see I have missed out on @cornellupress.bsky.social socks!!! (Next time!)

Another Harvard Gardens New Year to ring in 2025, this time with fireworks and national tv...

It is absolutely wild to me that for most of my childhood my parents would be rolling into Midnight Mass at this time with 3 little kids and then we'd have a little buffet once we got home, and they still did Christmas morning when we woke up. WILD

In low-stakes Christmas disasters, UPS has lost my sister's Christmas package for us and I have just discovered that the calendar I ordered for my daughter is somehow for 2023. All is well, but I can never fully escape a ridiculous scenario, it seems. Happy Holidays, friends!

This is what's so baffling about so many suggestions for AI in the humanities classroom: they mistake the product for the point. Writing outlines and essays is important not because you need to make outlines and essays but because that's how you learn to think with/through complex ideas.

Oh AI, you and I are really having a moment today. (Forgot to add -ai to my search...)

In case you were looking for more #HarvardGardens content, here's my neighbour on @cbc-news.bsky.social The Current talking about how we create community with our shared front-yard rink: www.cbc.ca/listen/live-...

I think the q of whether AI is "fake and sucks" or is "real and dangerous" misses what @lopatto.bsky.social catches here. There are aspects of AI's current functioning that make it *compromised* and, whether those aspects are fixed or not, its human users DON'T CARE. www.theverge.com/2024/12/5/24...

Love that the dog groomer took one look at my elderly bichon and decided this was his holiday vibe

Had great fun talking all things Greek mythology and Trojan War at Ecole John Henderson School this morning with some lovely grade 6ers. Even better is watching a former student in her element as their excellent teacher!

Pleased to see Classics Twitter and Winnipeg Twitter reforming pretty speedily over here!

A stranger stopped me this morning as I was walking my senior dog to tell me that he is beautiful and I was not prepared for that emotional moment to start the day. (But I agree with her)
