Penn his hiring a Digital Scholarship Developer! Come work with me and my amazing colleagues in Research Data and Digital Scholarship (RDDS)!!! wd1.myworkdaysite.com/en-US/recrui...

While this is good news for the creative industries (fingers crossed), putting this out at a time when they are being inundated with "what are you thinking????" responses to a closing consultation has big "Never Liked AI Anyway" vibes...

The Government is siding with big tech over British creativity. Today is the FINAL chance to respond to their consultation on AI and copyright. Let's make sure creators' voices are heard. Guidance below 👇 #MakeItFair #PayTheCreator www.alcs.co.uk/news/your-ri...

New website trove.scot brings together 335,000 records + 1.2 million images relating to designated sites and culturally significant objects in #Scotland, from 4 existing websites. This FutureScot article has background info; Help with your research has tips on using the new site. #OnePlaceWednesday

The UK AI and copyright consultation closes today. It is deliberately long and technical so many of us who will be impacted may feel it isn't for them. Respond anyway! Many groups have support materials to answer the questions you care about. Check them out>

I love this but hope they release it on vinyl as an artefact I can use in class/art statement…

CUNY friends and anyone working at a public institution — I cannot say this enough keep everything off your university email and equipment

It's hard to describe what a feat this is, and shouldered by a much smaller group than the folks who captured the data. @asegerberg.bsky.social has been chipping away at this database for years. Rescuing data is hard, but curating & publishing it is a much harder, lonely slog. Prepare for it.

This is an excellent speech by the new Chancellor of Oxford University, William Hague. Lots of good jokes, but also a staunch defence of what a university should be. We're going to need a lot of that in the years ahead.

What I’m up to next… leading the Edinburgh part of this, and building a new facility at @edincollegeofart.bsky.social to complement the Abertay studio, bringing together our different creative communities’ expertise. 🤗

📕🔓NEW OA BOOK🔓📕 Research, Development & Innovation in Creative Industries (Ruxandra Lupu, Marlen Komorowski, Justin Lewis & Máté Miklos Fodor) "one of the few large-scale empirical studies of how the creative industries engage with an innovation ecosystem" www.taylorfrancis.com/books/oa-edi...

🙁: "Our analysis of data on nearly 1.6 million AI professionals worldwide reveals stark gender imbalances. Women comprise only 22% of AI talent globally, with even lower representation at senior levels – occupying less than 14% of senior executive roles in AI."

It’s been a busy few days but CoSTAR Realtime Lab is go! Fab party tonight…

Berwick-upon-Tweed looking pretty stunning in the low sunlight, from the train…

Come to my party! 😊🎉🎓

AI doesn't have to involve big tech companies competing for data dominance. Cooperative governance offers an alternative model, as described in this (not yet peer-reviewed) paper from READ-COOP scholarly director, @melissaterras.bsky.social. open-research-europe.ec.europa.eu/articles/5-1...

Want cutting-edge digital research? Then you want Research Software Engineering. Only a couple of days left to contribute to the evidence base for Research Software Engineering and the impact it brings

In that there #Stratford today. I was just leaving UCL when plans for this were coming together… good to finally see it IRL.

This afternoon, a pop into the @antiquaries.bsky.social library…

The Medieval Women exhibition at the @britishlibrary.bsky.social is fabulous, with so many stories told. But as ever, with all these women's history exhibitions, I got She-Hulk smash rage about all the structural misogyny & all the different mechanisms deployed to keep women quiet/silent/downtrod.

A stormy train ride today, heading down to London for various. East coast mainline is always a treat.

Absolutely wonderful report from @sciencemuseumldn.bsky.social on the movement of the collection stores from Blythe House in London to custom facility in Wiltshire, including digitisation and barcoding of 300,000 objects. Phenomenal work over years, and great investment in collections access.

Be kind to your neurodivergent friends. These are not great times for people with justice sensitivity and a tendency towards overwhelm.
