Catching the bus in new places.

Just had a thought: the difference between a "food desert" and a "car dependent neighborhood" is the income of the residents. Both are food deserts (there are no supermarkets, etc) one just has enough ppl with cars for it to not matter.

If you want some local art on your feed, follow Matt, a groovy gifted abstract painter based in Tāmaki Makaurau ✨⚡(and, also a lovely human!)

I've just arrived in Taipei and wow, so impressed with transit, how family friendly infrastructure is, and how generally pleasing the varied and eclectic buildings are.

So many dolphins in Pōneke harbour that I had to film in landscape and still couldn't capture em all

This visa policy will also be terrible for 🏡🏡housing in NZ and for New Zealanders - especially those based in popular areas/tourism hubs, already out priced and pushed out by Airbnb. We need real investment from this government, not policy putting more pressure on housing.

Always was always will be 🖤💛❤️✊🏾

Every NZ friend (or stranger) that I have met in Australia admits they wished they had moved sooner. Better jobs, wages & quality of life higher, cost of living lower (mostly) and, unprompted, ppl mention the 12.5% employer cont. NZ needs serious policy responses to boost the reasons to stay.

One of the wonderful things about cycling for transport is you can bump into friends, share a section of your journey together spinning yarns, then continue on separately with no effort

Wow. This article. “…people sleep in doorways and alleys… & undeveloped public housing projects rot away... Every concession that NZ has made to the profits of private landlords pushed Scarlett Pavlovich into Gaiman’s arms. She had nowhere else to go. None of the women like her do.”

Secure and affordable housing for all. Absolutely fundamental.

This puts it well & it’s a point I keep making about why using AI to write is so flattening. Writing is the process of working out & refining what you think. If I write an article, I’m not just generating 1000 plausible words. I’m trying to articulate ideas with precision, & challenging myself.

A little comic about desire paths.

I think we can change the world by having protected bike lanes and secure bike parking everywhere.

I'm in a coastal town in the Mornington Peninsula (VIC) at the moment, and cool to stumble across this on-demand bus service outside a retirement village. Unsure how much it is used though (!).

Timothée Chalamet arrives by bicycle to the London premiere of ‘A COMPLETE UNKNOWN’

Seeing Shit You Should Care About on the Spinoff bulletin today. Chefs kiss. Love to see innovative local media platforms growing, and making an impact in how we receive & understand news ✨👌 @shityoushould.bsky.social @thespinoff.bsky.social

No Crap Sherlock. Auckland Transport's appalling attitude towards Street Tree maintenance would be the biggest problem not just in Central Auckland. That said we can always do with more trees in our public spaces and our homes too 🙂 www.rnz.co.nz/news/in-dept...

After two months ish working remote and travelling around Australian cities (great time!), I'm planning the next leg through SE Asia. 🌏 I forgot how much effort travel planning takes, and short notice stress /$$ (the first leg was planned slowly over many months, well before I left Ao/NZ). 😅

400,000 more people rode the NYC subways in a single day and it was barely noticeable. the equivalent population of Tampa piled into transit and it was a blip. almost like transit is a more efficient mode of conveyance than automobiles

Want to help families by giving them free bikes? We’ve started a campaign to raise $3000 to fund 100 free bikes. Please donate and share if you can. #freeride #bikeequity

Last night I had a deep & insightful convo about Te Tiriti, the Voice, colonisation and NZ/Aus histories with a retired white Aussie couple. It began with Hana-Rāwhiti Maipi-Clark's haka. Our histories are different, but intertwined. There's a lot to share and learn together.

I don't really think we talk enough about the importance wide bike lanes (and sidewalks) for the purpose of being able to be next to the people you're with. Having to file in a line is NOT nearly as enjoyable as having them by your side. 🚲🏙️

“Because of Us” A beautiful poem by Em Berry. Read and weep

This is huge. Rats, stoats and weasels have been eliminated from the Miramar Peninsula. www.pfw.org.nz/resources/ne...

Bird of the Year is going offf on my apartment’s noticeboard

Even on a grey day, Ockham's Greenhouse looking pretty stunning! Not affordefor many, but still much needed housing in this area.

A milestone last month, clocked 3,000km on my e-bike (and enjoyed wisteria season on the NW cycleway!). E-assist has been transformational and changed how I have travelled over the last year. 🌷🚲
