Look, I support amber alerts and silver alerts and whatever other emergency notifications are regionally relevant But why in the year 2025 does the link to learn more details for these have to point to the bad place (X) ?!?

what

Hearing this to start my week And now learning the NSF is being kicked out of their DC-area building and NASA is preemptively downsizing their workforce It's just a lot of whiplash for one week? And it's only Wednesday

Kid walks out the door to school and I get to enjoy a peaceful coffee alone. This is my motivation for safe streets. It’s really not radical or complicated.

Yesterday we released our cosmic treasure chest...and now it's yours to explore! With ✨~10 million galaxies✨ in the image, there's plenty to find. Pan, zoom, and hunt for gems in this treasure chest using Skyviewer - and be sure to share your favorites with us! 🔭🧪 ➡️ skyviewer.app/explorer

Between the amazing released images from the observatory I've worked on for my entire post-PhD career (8am) and helping my child take the first dose of a 10-day course of amoxicillin (8pm), my emotional fortitude is officially depleted

You know what to do, space nerd friends (There is also a classic tee version!)

Do this AND THEN go into the menu, Display, toggle on asteroids Prepare to have your mind blown Here's a tiny snapshot of what you'll see

You've seen the amazing @vrubinobs.bsky.social First Look images rubinobservatory.org/gallery/coll... Now watch a behind-the-scenes look of the first night of on-sky data, April 15, 2025 vimeo.com/1094612777 Or, as our esteemed director so accurately put it:

Want to see NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory's Cosmic Treasure Chest for yourself? Explore using Rubin's Skyviewer! There are billions of pixels to explore, and you might be the the first to lay eyes on a small, distant galaxy! #RubinFirstLook #CaptureTheCosmos skyviewer.app

Let me put it this way All I ever do at 8am is drag myself and/or my children out of bed But tomorrow at 8am, I will be watching the Rubin First Look with my incredible colleagues Join me — for a precious moment — to bask in what only decades of taxpayer investments can create, if we let it 🔭

Yes to every word of this With a side of the classic @shannonstirone.bsky.social "Mars is a hellhole," just for good measure I love Mars! It's a real place! Did you know Martian sunsets are blue? TIL it has 7 human-made satellites already! What are we doing!!

[Redacted, long, incomplete list] have not done any of this learning, either, yet are somehow entitled to fundamentally change the view

I suspect that fact that the vast majority of LLM users don’t seem to have received this (really very simple!) message is because the AI companies have a vested interest in us not understanding it. “ChatGPT is smart, it just makes mistakes sometimes” is much more marketable than the truth.

Some local hero was at work while I was out of town.

Went to a 1yo bday party, and two sets of 1yo parents were excited about getting new e-bikes for schlepping their little ones! 🥳 How can we make it SO easy for them to choose this transport mode, year after year, as their kids gain far-flung friends and activities and camps? Asking for a friend 😅

It is disingenuous to report on a tragedy and close with, 8 pedestrians have been killed by trains in the state this year so far, without also mentioning that 51 pedestrians have been killed by cars in the state this year so far. It's a long way to Vision Zero remoteapps.wsdot.wa.gov/highwaysafet...

Lots of stuff is crap right now so I'm feeling exceptionally grateful I get to play music, raise kids, ride bikes, and work to make sense of new world class telescope images It's a beautiful day, and I hope you find something to stand up for and something to be thankful for

I am at a conference/camp facility with unsecured but functional wifi and cannot get anything from @kagi.com to load despite the entire rest of the internet working fine - what?! Only similar behavior I ever saw was my kid public school iPad blocking the URL, but at least it told me it was blocked

I have so many feelings about this and the first one is Why can't all bikes have this button ⁉️ Also I mayyyy need to start a bike bus next year 🫣 …or maybe not until 2028, when the little one starts K, and we have 4 years of hallowed single dropoff that shall not be spoken lest SPS ruin everything

I'm glad more folks are biking in Seattle but yikes do we need more bike shops?! My GSD brakes were shot because all I do is bike in circles around the city and…they couldn't fit me in. So now we have a complex set of busing/driving/other-biking (hadn't driven since Memorial Day!) and I am le tired

I'm so mad this wasn't for sale when we were house shopping, and still isn't It has gosh darn cargo bike garage and a courtyard playground 🤯
