A barred spiral galaxy, possibly merging, observed with the Hubble Space Telescope in the COSMOS survey. It is at redshift 0.18 (lookback time 2.30 billion years) with coordinates (150.74612, 2.34301). 47 volunteers classified this galaxy in Galaxy Zoo: Hubble.

#ESAGaia has delivered on its primary goal of building the largest, most precise map of the Milky Way, showing us our home galaxy like no other mission has done before. Discover more about #ourGalaxy with this slider tool πŸ‘‰ www.esa.int/ESA_Multimed... πŸ” πŸ§ͺ

I attended a meeting: "Recovery plan for Ukrainian astronomy" organized by @unileiden.bsky.social @astro4dev.bsky.social It was great to interact with Ukrainian astronomers, learn about their science and challenges. I look forward to fostering new collaborations in both the Netherlands and Poland.

#ESAGaia has changed our impression of the Milky Way. The mission has shown us that it has more than two spiral arms and that they are less prominent than we previously thought. Discover the best map we currently have of #OurGalaxy, thanks to Gaia πŸ‘‰ www.esa.int/ESA_Multimed... πŸ” πŸ§ͺ

The NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope has provided a near-infrared view of the Sombrero Galaxy, thanks to the #NIRCam instrument on board. At the centre of the iconic galaxy are thousands of globular clusters ✨ glowing with near-infrared light. Read more πŸ‘‰ esawebb.org/images/sombr... πŸ”πŸ§ͺ

Totalling around 120 hours of observing time, this is the longest the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope has ever focused on a single target. The deep field aims to probe the Cosmic Dawn, when the Universe was only a few million years old. Read more πŸ‘‰ www.esa.int/ESA_Multimed... πŸ” πŸ§ͺ β˜„οΈ

Ridin' solo πŸ’« A single member of a galaxy pair takes centre stage in this NASA/ESA Hubble image. The galaxy NGC 3507 is classified as a barred spiral because the galaxy’s sweeping spiral arms emerge from the ends of a central bar of stars rather than the central point of the galaxy.

You're an interesting species. An interesting mix. You're capable of such beautiful dreams, and such horrible nightmares. You feel so lost, so cut off, so alone, only you're not. See, in all our searching, the only thing we've found that makes the emptiness bearable, is each other.

Why do we know so little about Mercury? πŸ€” It mostly comes down to the planet's proximity to the Sun. This makes Mercury more difficult to observe, harder to reach and too hot to orbit up close. But our #BepiColombo mission is ready for the challenge. Read more πŸ‘‰ www.esa.int/Science_Expl... πŸ” πŸ§ͺ

This planet is run by crazy people. Remember what they have to do to get where they are. Their perspective is so narrow, so...brief. A few years. In the best of them a few decades. They care only about the time they are in power. - Carl Sagan, Contact
