Cloud and rain are gradually moving east this afternoon in association with a myriad of fronts although the far east is still managing some short-lived sunshine this morning.

The Aurora Deprivation Syndrome is starting to kick in looking at these old pictures. I miss it dearly. 😢

Nice 15C out there, not as mild tomorrow but still staying in double digits for maximums.

Spring is back, at least for a day or so

With 16.4°C yesterday, Kinloss (Grampian) recorded the highest official temperature in the UK since Santon Downham (East of England) reached 18.7°C on 24th November.

Absolutely shocking and very worrying from NOAA www.newscientist.com/article/2469...

Warmest day of the year so far 😉

The first lot of rainfall in the SE for a little while looks to move through tomorrow afternoon in association with a front moving east, will be milder and windier tomorrow with highs around 12C.

The mild air is marching in from the SW, any sunshine is likely to push the temperature up to 16C on Friday especially where the foehn effect is likely to take hold, i.e. North Kent (lucky me 😉) and Cambridgeshire.

Falcon 9 upper rocket stage seen from Herne Bay early this morning.

Nothing ever bad happens from cutting jobs and drawing away funding from already underfunded & understaffed organisations in the wake of a drastically changing climate where public information is more vital than ever. It gives a real sense of foreboding. www.axios.com/2025/02/18/f...

A fascinating new paper on Storm Ciarán estimates gross losses of €3.66 billion in the UK if its track was 250 kilometres further north and €1.2 billion if it was a mere 100 kilometres further north. We were fortunate, to say the least.

It does feel like it’s been a while since blue hour has looked like blue hour 😂 - sadly the milder weather will bring more cloud so have to pray for some breaks 🤞

More sunshine - good stuff. It’ll feel milder from tomorrow and Friday will feel more akin to late April and we could see 16C somewhere.

Milk the sunshine while you can today, simply superb.

There’s not much I can caption this with but here’s a seagull

A few flakes of #uksnow this morning here in Herne Bay, another one for the tally 😂

Snow event for the ages here in coastal Herne Bay - drier air has just about let this one in

#uksnow 1/10 CT6 A tiny bit of sleety snow

That's a strong signal for mild next week although looking fairly dry, perhaps something a bit more like spring as temperatures reach double digits?

I must say the 5x zoom on the iPhone 15 Pro Max is brilliant for gigs, love it. @loscampesinos.bsky.social

A lonely Valentine’s Day is never better spent solo at a @loscampesinos.bsky.social gig, legends.

joint-research-centre.ec.europa.eu/european-and... Given the dry outlook, this bears monitoring on approach to spring, alongside the forecast weather patterns. Unless cold or wet weather arrives, established drought can accelerate the seasonal rise in temperatures & raise odds of a hot summer.

Awww, I thought, how sweetly appropriate. #Happyvalentinesday! #UKCanals

The sun is out today for the first time in 7 days and it’s so sunny that I’ve stuck on my summer playlist even though it’s 3C outside. Incredible scenes

Day 7 of consecutive sunless conditions, the most in February this century at Manston. Winter really is in the bin 😂

ECM delayed by nearly 4 hours for a lovely southwesterly this time next week, love it 🤣

The weather STILL absolutely stinks today.

June can never come quicker, perhaps some clearer spells tomorrow morning if we're very lucky. I can only hope we have widespread monthly 300 hour sunshine totals from June to August as reparations for the clag fest.

We will kindly forget the ECM undercutting run madness for now

Models have certainly trended to a milder outcome over the last few days although still being chilly. Significant cold chances have been greatly reduced so wouldn't expect too much on that front for now, will of course update if anything on that changes.

The weather absolutely stinks today.

The low responsible for the dreary damp weather of late.

The cold is perilously close on models, a mere 129 miles on JMA. Love it, superb, keep it up.

4 years ago today.

Weather absolutely stinks this afternoon, horrendous. Bring on the summer

Tomorrow does seem like it might be Friday 2.0 but just a bit less wintry, cold rain for most of the day sadly. There are some hints that precipitation may turn more wintry into the afternoon/evening but more likely to be sleet/graupel than anything!

There's somehow even more spread on the GFS ensemble suite this morning, no change from me at the minute. Blocked nearby, unclear how this will influence the UK at this range but could certainly flip either way.

I have no more weather updates for today but I do have this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJUh...
