Powerful from Mary Bosworth, who has had unprecedented access to deportation flights.

Australian citizen detained 32 times at Sydney airport accuses border force of systemic racism

Understanding the harms experienced by people both subject to & inflicting border violence offers a route towards “an alternative approach—one that reimagines and replaces exclusionary infrastructure with new sites and practices rooted in shared aspirations and inclusion.” @mfbosworth.bsky.social

“The danger of taking the Home Office too literally in its discursive or visual accounts, is that we fail to hold up to scrutiny the levels of financial investment in this system.” @mfbosworth.bsky.social on why (and how) we should resist the border spectacle. blogs.law.ox.ac.uk/border-crimi...

HO released disturbing footage of deportation charter flights. A new blog by @mfbosworth.bsky.social reflects on her research into the detainee escorting system. What's not shown in this video? The resistance, the chaos, the sorrow, the fear. 📑Read more below: blogs.law.ox.ac.uk/border-crimi...

Thinking of my US humanities colleagues; just catching up with the NEH announcement from earlier this week. No gender, nothing related to DEI issues or access, no environmental justice. I guess no humanities at all then. www.neh.gov/executive-or...

Share this incredibly useful guide from @right-to-remain.bsky.social with everyone you can. Knowing your rights, and how to protect others, is as important as ever as the Labour Government copies the hostile, anti-migrant tactics of the previous one.

This should be changed asap. If we give someone refugee status, it can't be right to then refuse them route to become a British Citizen. To say they can have a home in our country, but never a place in our society and be forever second class. freemovement.org.uk/good-charact...

Anyone know why the deportation video seems to show HO staff doing the escorting? No Mitie insignia visible. The only ‘branding’ is “immigration enforcement”. The uniforms do look like HO. I know they sometimes assist but are they running whole operations now? Footage v similar to US govt’s DVIDs 😳

The new ‘Border Security Bill’ heralds the legal & political end to the UK/Rwanda migration deal but life at the border, whether in the English Channel or in Kivu, remains securitized. My latest for @bordercrim.bsky.social buff.ly/4i0arzd @vickytaylor.bsky.social @alasdairmackenzie.bsky.social

In response to the UK government's new Border Security, Asylum, and Immigration Bill, @vickytaylor.bsky.social and Catriona Götz have written this blog post analysing the implications of this bill and how it may further criminalise people on the move: blogs.law.ox.ac.uk/border-crimi...

I know there are more important things to be getting on with at present, but could we just ban Sharepoint please... for all work related activities... why are all uni docs so IMPOSSIBLE to access?

New on the blog! @vickytaylor.bsky.social and Catriona Götz discuss the new offences on Labour's Border Security, Asylum and Immigration bbill, which would significantly expand the state’s ability to use criminal powers against those it labels as having played a role in ‘facilitating migration’.

We argue that the proposed new offences will imprison more people trying to seek safety and a better life in the UK This is already happening - over 550 people have been imprisoned 2022-24 for crossing the Channel. @captainsupportuk.bsky.social works in solidarity with them.
