What's interesting is that young men and young women are both more left wing than the general population, but vote for adolf hitler parties at much higher rates - AfD is much bigger than CDU under 25, and Die Linke is bigger or as big as SDP and Grune

I will say two things here on German elections tonight: 1) 84% turnout - highest since reunification - shows that Germans do care about democracy and elections. 2) @helenebismarck.bsky.social is right.

Belatedly, the Global Urban History Project (GUHP) is moving from the other place over to this one, where we are gradually trying to build a presence. Feel free to follow @globalurbanhistory.bsky.social

“The [DW] findings indicate that the defunding of Zochrot and New Profile are part of a larger pattern of cutting federal funds for human rights organizations that have been critical of the Israeli government's policies and the ongoing war in Gaza.” www.dw.com/en/germany-d...

Over the past 80 years, academic writing has become substantially harder to read 📉🧪 www.economist.com/science-and-... I analysed 350k PhD thesis abstracts and found that they've become more complex in every discipline, especially the humanities and social sciences

Berlin senat is about to decide upon cutting the next year's budget for universities and scientific institutes in Berlin. Currently they are aiming at a cut of about 8%. Our student numbers are rising and the graduates are dearly needed in education and science. #safebraincity

There are many layers here, but I want to comment on one aspect of these findings for now--the editorial board representation. Some will see this and immediately think: we need to get more POC on our boards! I understand that impulse, but encourage you to think a few steps down the game tree 1/n.

I wrote an essay on decolonization talk for Aeon Magazine, sparked in part by the seemingly odd image search results for 'decolonization' when making posters for Ohio State's International History Seminar last year. @mershoncenter.bsky.social @osuhistory.bsky.social aeon.co/essays/what-...

We regularly update our Starter Pack of the German-speaking community in political theory and history of ideas as well as a number of international accounts, mostly from institutions. So take a look at who has been added here in the last 3 weeks. We welcome suggestions for further suitable accounts.

This was a fantastic conference from earlier this year at the @dhiparis.wisskomm.social.ap.brid.gy, where I was given the generous opportunity to talk about my recent work on German Samoa. Great conference report on it just published: www.hsozkult.de/conferencere...

Completely agree with this central point by Adam Tooze. But I’d (a) love to hear a good explanation and (b) am not sure what the point’s consequence is for the rest of the discussion.

As this site is coming alive, I tried to help my own orientation by creating a starter pack for global urban history. Suggestions welcome go.bsky.app/3FUgYoE

Are peer reviews becoming more like American elections, with half the reviewers seeing the exact opposite of what the other half see or read?

This, and other @marinelivesorg.bsky.social threads, make me wonder why on earth I spent 200 or more hours over the past years to read mid-19th-c probate cases and testaments, only to discard about 90% of them. Could have spent that time reading novels on the beach, and now have AI sort it all out.
