Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Why the Right Hates Juneteenth Wrote this two years ago - but worth reiterating, as America is ruled by a regime seeking to restore complete white male dominance in all spheres of life: Today’s MAGA GOP stands in the political, ideological, and spiritual tradition of the (neo-) Confederacy.

Call Brian Eno you cowards

Have you bought yourself a good horror book lately? Here's some. Available everywhere, even directly through my website where you'll get them signed by me.

"I'm happy to report I'm just fine. I lost a button. But I'm gonna sleep in my bed tonight, safe, with my family... At that elevator, I was separated from someone named Edgardo... Edgardo is in ICE detention and he's not going to sleep in his bed tonight."

There is an RSVP-required event from @genderjustice.us honoring Melissa & Mark Hortman & to share grief. Again, RSVP required for more details as security will be at the highest level with the threats to the Reproductive Movement.

We’re announcing new legislation — the No Secret Police Act (SB 627) — to ban local/state/federal law enforcement, w/ some exceptions, from covering their faces when interacting w/ the public & require them to wear identifying info. The secret police behavior we’re seeing destroys trust & must end🧵

The only Lord of the Rings remake I will ever accept. (Stolen from Tumblr because YES)

libertarians and 'small government' conservatives convincing themselves that actually kings are awesome now

Punk rock kid buskers (‘The Whops’, tiktok) near the Edgware Rd. They run into Paul Simonon, play Death or Glory for him. He asks if they know The Guns of Brixton. They do -

Thinking about accidentally walking thru local school’s parking lot during a college fair & being beset by anxious parents asking about my school’s selectivity as I listen to Barbara Cottrell talking about developing stories about Miskatonic U at the StokerCon panel Cosmic Horror Beyond Lovecraft 🤣

The Minnesota shooter reportedly had a hit list of almost 70 people, including abortion providers and abortion rights advocates. Just this week, a House committee advanced a bill that would repeal a federal law protecting abortion clinics www.cnn.com/us/live-news...

LA Area friends, if you've been thinking about learning to play the bagpipes, or just feel like whacking a couple of pans together, here's where to go:

Can we get him to weigh in on ether, phlogiston, and spontaneous generation? I feel like the jury may still be out on some of the classics ...

Like people think there’s a central authority that can cancel a protest titled “No Kings”

Some thoughts about the military parade in my hometown of Washington DC today -- specifically, the route. Military parades in DC are quite rare. But when they happen, they have always begun, symbolically and geographically, at the Capitol and moved outward. 1/

@annamerlan.bsky.social on the "No Sleep for ICE" activists tracking down which hotels they're being billeted at and causing a scene: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

If you're heading to a protest tomorrow, it's important to know your rights. Consult this information from the ACLU. Be peaceful. Be safe. Be careful. Be strong.

The 21 was quite a route; I used to take it to East Lake Street from downtown St. Paul if I missed the limited stop line, and it rolled through the most interesting cross section of the cities.

Hugh Masekela literally ran into me at the bar at Ronnie Scott's in 1989; we were both getting pints of Newkie Brown, and there our similarities end. He put on an amazing show. (This video is not that show, but he played this song.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=dclN...

Someone's been up late watching "Iron Sky" ...

Every elected Republican should be asked if they think the president has the power to send in military in to “liberate” a state or city from its elected government.

Exactly right. The assault on a senator was a crime but Noem’s “liberation” comments were actually even worse.

It’s true, as many have suggested, that if they can do this to Sen. Padilla, they can do it to others. I’d only add that they already have been doing this to others. A mass deportation regime, sooner rather than later, becomes contemptuous of civil liberties and basic decency.

When can I go into the supermarket and buy what I need with my good looks?

America this is quite serious. America this is the impression I get from looking in the television set. America is this correct?

Padilla: If this is how DHS responds to a senator with a question you can only imagine what they're doing to farm workers, to cooks, to day laborers out in the Los Angeles community and throughout California.

I told you we’d be back

I've just hit play on the audiobook of "Business Casual," the last "Lovelight Farms" book by B.K. Borison, even though I know I'm going to really sad to leave these characters - I've been saving this one for months. I'll be starting the "Heartstrings" series soon, but I'd love "Lovelight" book 5 ...

Real world: - Trump team trying to create a Reichstag moment. - Trump telling military audience that LA is hellhole full of "animals" - Officials in Calif trying both to calm things down, and stand up PUNDIT world: - Is it smart politics? - Is Gavin running? - Doesn't Trump look strong!

It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence. They are in charge.

I hope that part of the fallout of this shitty administration is a soul-deep revulsion at using AI for anything

House and Senate leaders should demand resignations from both Major General Pat Work, the 82nd Airborne Division commander, and Colonel Chad Mixon, the Fort Bragg garrison commander. This was possibly the most partisan speech ever delivered by a commander-in-chief to U.S. troops.

Just remember, if you really like to turn in a full ballot, after you've checked off Omar and Jazz, pick from any of the other far-down-the-ballot candidates with an appealing name or intriguing-sounding party - #DontRankFrey
