It's wonderful to have someone so knowledgeable and clear eyed talk about the *ongoing* pandemic.

This is 100% true for every chronic illness. I want to really, really emphasize this for those with #MECFS and #LongCovid: if your body is telling you to stop, stop. “Pushing through” took me from working full time to being 95-99% bedbound. It is not worth it.

Had a haircut today (masked!) and the stylist was talking about clients with long covid who are going to alternative medicine practitioners. So discouraging that people are forced into this pathway. I tried to explain a bit about my medical treatment and how it works, I hope he remembers it.

Thames water raising bills £16 PER MONTH I'm so serious I want to burn this company to the ground

I keep seeing folks posting about things hitting different after 25, 30, 35 & my loves, that’s not getting older it’s COVID. You should be running around taking life for granted at these ages. COVID did that to you, not aging, COVID & your governments are stealing your youth.

Never thought my overriding life strategy would be so informed by Da Share Zone, but here we are.

If I am doing you a favour why am I also chasing you on details, come on

going back in time to smash Andrew Wakefield on the head and averting the end of known civilisation

this is an obvious one but worth repeating. Centrism is by definition moving more to the right because the right have become more extreme. Thank you for coming to my talk

"We should cut costs to save money" OK??? Save money FOR WHAT? Is it ... to pay for things? Things that you ... cut?

Every day a banger from Kendra. 'Fight' being the first thing we think of when we are unwell, or faced with a major societal issue, is a problem. It's not our only option! What if we explored other options, like educate, nurture, support, care for, grieve?

Oh I like this a lot.

I've started rewatching ER. I'd not watched it again since it aired when I was a kid. This show is so good!! It's aged really well, aside from some troubling gender/ sexuality stuff. It's just well written, fantastically paced, and everyone is acting their little hearts out. I miss really good TV

Not one single person or organisation embracing AI as it currently functions has addressed the devastating environmental consequences. Not one. Not one. Not. One.

Not surprised but still disgusted by this. The Guardian in general hasn't been particularly progressive for a long time (was it ever? I don't actually know). Barring a small contingent of leftist opinion pieces it puts out a boat load of pure reactionary trash. www.theguardian.com/gnm-press-of...

What I notice here and in other topics ("smart phones are ruining focus!") is that its focused on what the sufferer is doing wrong. It always goes back to that: blame. It's so pervasive and embedded in our culture to do this. Thanks, I hate it!

I just don't understand how doctors can believe you have some undefined mental disorder instead of looking at the very solid and well documented history of infectious disease causing long term effects. Hello, polio?? But no the patient must just be crazy now, out of the blue. Makes sense.

When I get het up about other people's actions or lack thereof it's almost always because I feel too powerless to fight the real enemy. Solidarity and encouragement solve both situations perfectly.

we're not gonna rejoin the eu cos rich people don't want to hope that helps

'WHO now admits the COVID virus and other germs spread “through the air.”' www.scientificamerican.com/article/a-fi...

Seriously silly to spend your time making fun of people who want to avoid illness while your country’s infrastructure and government mechanisms to ensure clean air and water are being dismantled

"shadow doge" sir we tried that it was called austerity and its why the country is so broken in the first place

What are people's thoughts on hiring someone over qualified for a particular role? Is this a good thing to do? Or bad? Unintended consequences?

Covid at its lowest level since the end of lockdown in 2021. Which is odd to me because I am still hearing of people I know testing positive. So hard to understand how this work, assess risk etc christinapagel.substack.com/p/latest-cov...

I screamed and did a little jump at the kitchen counter listening to the latest episode of You're Wrong About, which mentioned my favourite of all time Metafilter thread on 'emotional labour'. I've been waiting so long for that thread to be acknowledged as the cultural touch stone it is.

Ignoring disability rights activists on post-viral chronic illness led to widespread Long Covid, ignoring animal rights activists on factory farming led to widespread avian flu, ignoring environmental activists on deforestation is going to lead to even more pandemics. When will we start listening?

Something you can do to stand against RFK jr’s attempt to make us all sicker is wear a mask when you share air with others. Resist mask bans. People who cannot afford to get sick have a right to exist in public. Masking will protect your health from him too.

Unintentionally profound statement

Many valid theories re: why healthcare/other workers don’t protect themselves—but let’s talk about a few material conditions that made mass infection feel inevitable. Here’s how capitalism, state abandonment & labor discipline turned “getting sick at work” into a job requirement.
