Why can’t we write directly to the web? Why can’t plain text *link*? Why can’t we post comments by just including links to what we’re commenting on? Why do we have to keep reinventing these things?

TV Tropes is the source code to our culture

The Vitalik Ethos

Hypothesis: Apocalyptic movements in history are triggered—not by misguided religious fanaticism—but by rapid disruptive change.

I have this sense that the mythic world of Les Mis is the real world. A world of profound wrestling with order and grace, a world where we struggle for atonement, and to redeem our naive idealisms, and to maintain our integrity in the face of the universe.

Computation is another word for Transubstantiation

Maybe bad is that which removes you from productive feedback loops

Feels like children’s television has mostly given up on the idea of teaching reading and math. I don’t have a strong opinion about this. Seems interesting.

Growing up, I don’t think I realized how much of the culture I was absorbing was second-hand drug culture

We are living through the feudal era of the internet. We can remember a freer and simpler era, seemingly closer to our ideals. Erased with the growth of complexity. Eventually, we’ll attain our freedom, and establish a true basis for those freedoms we once glimpsed.

America has always been conflicted over whether it was supposed to be Rome or Jerusalem

This probably isn’t the developers’ top priority (although it should be), but I’d love to see the Bluesky app have an option to switch to the Julian calendar for those of us who reject the lies of Pope Gregory XIII

It was easier to know what to do when my team were the scrappy underdogs

The real deep state is reality itself

I think you gotta work hard to avoid being radicalized into believing things that aren’t true. Listening to the other side can help, but only works in moderation, I think. More fundamentally, you’ve got to resist believing what you hope or fear. You’ve got to doubt yourself.

I'm thinking AI will liberate us from the data siloes that have been the blight of the internet age.

I just realized that "forward" and "foreword" are spelled differently

Zero is an even number…in an odd way
