My personal "5 years since the start of Covid" moment is remembering that in 2020, the US discovered it had allowed almost all its mask and PPE manufacturing to transfer to China for cost savings. In 2025, PPE is still almost all made offshore, and we just encouraged China to end shipments to us.

Good way to see the current tariffs, as of literally today, is no tariffs on high value add manufactured goods marketed to middle and upper middle classes. Massive tariffs for cheap consumer items which amount to the biggest economic privilege of working class/middle class life in US.

My dad taught me the concept of single points of failure in the early 80s when I asked him why he insisted on buying stereo system components separately, instead of the integrated systems that had become popular. It's served me well, personally and professionally.
