I like baseball and I write about it for MLB.com. Special focus on the World Baseball Classic, culture, and freaky little oddities. I also like rock n roll.

First time having a beer with my baseball inside the Big Egg!

I’ve spent more time in the Tokyo Dome than any other stadium over the last few years. Tonight will be my first just watching as a fan. The Chiba Lotte Marines ōendan is going strong nearly an hour before first pitch

Wendy’s in Japan has pasta!

If you’ve ever been looking to buy baseball gear while in Japan, Baseball Mario near the Shima-Kitzawa Station is the spot. Incredible service and great Japanese-made equipment. Plus, right now Spring Koshien is on the TV!

"My mission is to bring baseball to kids. I want kids to learn baseball and find something about themselves," Sadaharu Oh said. The greatest HR hitter in history isn't interested in protecting his record. He wants to bring the game to the world. Story: www.mlb.com/news/sadahar...

Before the KBO season opens this week, I had a chance to speak with last year's MVP, Do-yeong Kim. The youngest player to ever pull off a 30/30 season -- coming just 2 HR from a 40/40 season -- he's trying to reach perfection. Story: www.mlb.com/news/korean-...

Getting to do something very fun inside the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum for WBC … videos coming soon!

WOW. Really cool story from @alexjstumpf.bsky.social's Pirates newsletter: Ugandan pitcher David Matoma has hit 101 mph! links.mlb.mlbemail.com/s/vb/39iIW6x...

See you later, Tokyo Dome! Always a pleasure!

To say this was a dream of a lifetime is an understatement. I got to speak with Sadaharu Oh, the undisputed worldwide home run king. He was warm, kind and gracious. ""I never remember seeing this level of excitement from fans and players," Oh said. www.mlb.com/news/sadahar...

In this situation, Shohei Ohtani should be allowed to choose: Take the walk or continue to get pitches until he either strikes out or hits the ball in play.

It is no understatement to say I would not be where I am today without Sadaharu Oh, who as Daiei Hawks manager 26 years ago patiently indulged this nobody reporter and his truly horrible Japanese on the sidelines before games to answer my questions about why Japanese baseball's customs and culture.

The energy in the stadium is great, but I am missing the ōendan so much. Was really special to hear the horns blaring and the taiko drums pounding during the exhibition games over the weekend.

Shohei Ohtani is incredible. AND DID WE JUST GET A EUROSTEP!? My god, what a hero.

That sac fly from Kiké Hernández has me wondering: How deep would a ball need to be hit for it to make sense for ME to tag up from third base? I'm a slow piece of human garbage. I'm certain I'd be thrown out on that one.

Roki Sasaki waking everyone up in America with non-stop triple-digit heat

One reason not to believe in psychokinesis: All 45,000 people in the Dome were willing that ball to carry over the fence.

I know we've been preparing for this for months, but it IS really cool that Roki Sasaki will make his Major League debut in Japan, doing it inside a sold out Tokyo Dome. It also snowed today, so everything today has a feeling of the unreal attached to it.

The Tokyo Dome is the place to be for for today's game, but if you can't be there, the baseball izakaya Abusan is the place to be. Open since the 1980s, it is baseball heaven. www.mlb.com/news/abusan-...

Something that seems intriguing to me but I can’t fathom the amount of work this might take: how often the first team to win in a season is also the last

Oh my god. Perhaps the best moment from the night: the Pikachus slowly waddling their way off the field in an empty Tokyo Dome

In 2016, Kiké Hernández and Samurai Japan star Kazuma Okamoto were teammates in Puerto Rico. They were reunited in Tokyo earlier this week. "He popped out to me and I almost dropped it on purpose to see if he could get on base and [I could] say hi." www.mlb.com/news/enrique...

This is a very special Tokyo Series. It's not just the most Japanese-star-studded one in the history of MLB games played in Japan, but it's also the culmination of 150 years of the sport connecting Japan and the United States. My story: www.mlb.com/news/tokyo-s...

It is WILD in here

In 2016, after his first full season with the Yomiuri Giants, WBC Samurai Japan star Kazuma Okamoto played for the Gigantes de Carolina in the Puerto Rican Winter League. He was teammates with Kiké Hernandez that season. This was his first hit:

“I’ve played in four World Series and the WBC is up there with the World Series if not even more special when it comes to like the energy of the crowd,” Kiké Hernandez said before today’s game.

First time in the Majors, NOT the first time in the Tokyo Dome after starring in November’s Premier12

Think fans here are excited? This was the crowd FOUR hours before first pitch

Long lines to see next year’s World Baseball Classic trophy and jerseys, balls, and other memorabilia from the previous tourneys at SKYTREE in Tokyo

Went to studio d’artisan, one of my favorite denim shops in Tokyo, and bought the crazy dorozome jeans. Indigo denim that’s then literally hand-overdyed in mud!

Yunker sounds a little like the name of the new pitch sweeping the league
