I wrote the 1st critical study of Bob Dylan's work, over 50 years ago. And I'm still alive. Very fond of dogs. I'm English and regard myself as European.

Here's an extract from my revisit to Bob Dylan's 1962 live set at the Finjan Club, where he played Blowin' in the Wind live for just the second time. Read the full revisit: dylanrevisited.com/2025/04/02/f...

At Bob Dylan's 1986 UK press conference (which I attended), a question about 'Belle Isle', and my investigation into where the song came from: youtu.be/vdrBNjg4dtc?...

This is the back cover of new paperback "OUTTAKES ON BOB DYLAN: Selected Writings 1967-2021". The colour photo has me & my then baby daughter in front of the NYC wall used on the "Oh Mercy" album:

My author's copies have arrived!

The first and best serious dylan writer @michaelgray1.bsky.social has his latest volume now in paperback. Review below.

Thanks, but actually the book of mine you mean is "Outtakes On Bob Dylan: Selected Writings 1967-2021" - and it's just been published in paperback. Your listeners can find it on their local Amazon territory:

News!! The paperback edition of this book is now published by Route Books - and unlike the only-UK-despatched hardback, you can get this on your local Amazon site whichever country you live in: ie. without excise duty otherwise,er, tariffs😎

Same sound as, and *very* similar melody to, their song with the chorus "You don't have to be his girl, you don't have to be my girl - you can always be your own girl."

I'm sorry he omits the Little Boy Lost verse, but a beautiful vocal and a lovely pace:

Bob Dylan’s Easter eggs contain Easter eggs. Note how he pairs a line about hiding booze from Larry Brown’s short story “Kubuku Rides (This Is It)” with a line from the New Lost City Ramblers’ “Kentucky Bootlegger” (someone who hides booze). Ain’t like Easter eggs? Exactly like Easter eggs.

Nice Abandoned Love cover. youtu.be/R1bma7_RK-I?...

Bob Dylan, Town Hall, New York, 1963 ~ 13 songs youtu.be/hJSl2050Bm8?...

I’m tired of podcasts…

My favourite Bob coat. Outrageous to cut off the end of the performance. That's not an upgrade.

20 years ago today I arrived at Girton College Cambridge (UK) to start my term as a Fellow Commoner. And it was in the college library that I began my Bob Dylan Encyclopedia.

I was one of the women arrested at a Quaker meeting house. So why was I, a student journalist covering a Youth Demand event, detained for 16 hours? www.independent.co.uk/independentp...

News! my 1st two live events fixed for this year: May 22 in Vienna (my 4th time around at the Salon); Sept 26 at the Séamus Ennis Centre, Naul, Dublin. Vienna gig details tba Dublin, 8pm: IS BOB DYLAN NOW HISTORY? now on sale. For link see comments.

Stories In The Press: A captivating recount of the night Bob Dylan collapsed in a lobby after a concert, revealing both his iconic status and personal struggles.

A leading contender for the title of "Bob Dylan's worst album", "Knocked Out Loaded" is... actually good? I am clearly biased but Brownsville Girl is a classic, Mind Made Up, Driftin, & Ramble rock, & Under Your Spell might be the most underrated Dylan song of them all 4/5 youtu.be/o-6FcSiuw-Y?...

A contender for Best B-Side Ever: youtu.be/w4ewuKBHifc?...

Sean O'Hagan should surely know that Elvis's first record was titled 'That's All Right' without 'Mama' on the end. Also, and more worth knowing, Stanley Booth wrote a *great* earlier collection of essays about the blues, "Rythm Oil".

Keir Starmer in an interview with the New York Times says that he personally “likes and respects” Donald Trump. Sorry, but no thinking person could respect Donald Trump. That’s outrageous

I've given in total 288 talks/lectures (with audio & often video). Many were achieved only after putting myself forward to arts venues, festivals & colleges. Many never even reply. I'm stopping that now. Programmers/profs.: I'm still happy to come but now you need to invite me.

2nd gig at the Troubadour 5 yrs ago today. Left home SW France 7am; plane, train, tube; soundchecked 7pm, gig 8pm; next night home late. 2/3 days later, UK lockdown. Seemed mad to have had 100 people crowded into the Troubadour basement just days earlier... Good gig though.

C4 coverage of #Crufts could hardly be worse. People just want to watch the Crufts events: they don't want all the studio chatting with Clare Balding and photos of other viewers' dogs. Anodyne drivel filling up time to yield more than a reasonable number of ad breaks. Jeez...

Wonderful interview. He sounds very likeable. Thoughtful too. (Love how he singles out that great final verse of Eileen Aroon.)
