Nothing sucks the suspense out of noirish first-person-narration like adding the words "Dear diary" to the beginning of each chapter.

If your kids loved Super Mario 3D World and want to play more games like that, check out the demo for The Smurfs: Dreams. My daughter liked it a lot. It's nowhere near as polished as 3D World, but it has a few cool ideas. And there truly aren't enough platformers in that vein around.
