Wonderful performance of Helmut Lachenmann’s ‘My Melodies’ by HR-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt (including eight solo horns) conducted by Matthias Hermann. After following his works from the late eighties this piece seems to be his magnum opus.

I like composers who have something to say. Always did. In 1985 Morton Feldman mentioned Wolfgang Rihm in a lecture I attended. The name stuck. Rihm (his music in combination with his way of observing everything around him) impressed me (a lot). 1/2

Monday June 16 1986 Giacinto Scelsi attended a concert with his music at Paradiso Amsterdam during the Holland Festival. I was there too and remember that the mysterious composer from Italy caused quite a stir among the audience.

Alphons Diepenbrock, Ivan Fischer and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra; it’s a terrific match! Fischer’s poetic rendering of the ‘Marsyas Suite’ left everybody breathless 😊 and this orchestra (with so much young talented musicians) was absolutely fabulous. Many thanks to everyone involved 🙏
