A great joy! This is a very balanced choice of the cardinals (of the 2 top names shared by a colleague in Rome yesterday). A choice to cultivate the legacy of pope Francis and to appease tensions inside the curia and with the US. Leo is young (69), this indicates a firm choice of the cardinals

The conclave is not a horse race based on competition, nor irrational-obscure red magic, and not Alice in wonderland surrounded by care bears. In a synodal Church, this 2-3 week transition of power between 2 popes is a collective, rational & religious election to reveal the one with the most...

As a minister of the Church (lector and acolyte) I felt like I performed my duties, thanks to Channels News Asia when I went live during 90 min to publicly explain and comment the funeral of Francis. A service to all.

Today, one of the most interesting (distinct) elements of the pope funerals will be the 4 km long procession to Santa Maria. A march out of the Vatican, a return to the people. In terms of power display, it will be different from the funeral procession of Elisabeth II www.youtube.com/live/pscny8y...

No, the conclave is not a horse race!! Most media have difficulties to capture and reflect on its geopolitical and religious depth. We are NOT dealing with horses running on a flat land..

Even Italians start to believe that Aaia is key www.settimananews.it/chiesa/verso...

A Korean colleague was surprised that only cardinals below 80 can vote. For some1 coming from a rapidly aging society in which democracy is increasingly influenced by old citizens, the conclave helps to think about the resilience of democracy. Indeed, the papacy inspires institutional thinking!

The day started with the BBC and ended up with Al Jazeera, via interview with media in Hong Kong, New York & Paris. Yet, the center remains the same: Francis.

Friendship: keys of the apartment of a non-Catholic Chinese friend. It's been more than 10 years since I have these keys. Every time I pass by this vast Chinese city, I can just go to his apartment and sleep there. And yes, this kind of friendship colors the (non sectarian) way I look at China

Traveling tips: when you travel accross borders on a regular basis, better have specific bags to keep together coins, transportation cards & others small things from each country. Below, a sample of 9 Asian countries.
