An array of #BookHistory in this volume: My lady Warren #HerBook, the as yet unidentified E. H., Humfrey Dyson. The class mark tells me it was in @theulspeccoll.bsky.social before 1715 and there's a lovely little fore-edge running number label.

On Friday night, HHS ordered CDC to take down all flu vaccine campaign materials from its website. Materials are starting to come down. For example, a campaign explaining that flu shot can reduce flu severity from "wild to mild" is now offline. Left image is from Friday, right is now Meanwhile...

So much for free speech. Let's make this cartoon by @mluckovich.bsky.social go viral. I'm married to @tealcartoons.bsky.social so I might be biased, but cartoons have long played a vital role in shaping political debate - both past and present. This type of censorship is deeply troubling.

Today we open the brand new Margaret Cavendish exhibition at Hollytrees Museum. An interventive trail throughout the galleries that recounts her life and work. She was a pioneering dystopian sci-fi writer in an age where women were hugely restricted.

A striking #herbook discovery - Lucy Strong clearly treasured her 'Treasurie of the French tong'. That binding 😍

🧐One of the earliest known examples of a woman's donation bookplate (in our Special Collections), found in a copy of Salvian's works, printed in 1611. The bookplate dates from 1616 when Lady Anne Harington established a library at Oakham Parish Church. #HerBook

This year, especially, I remember my uncle Siert Kooi, who was killed in Neuengamme in 1944 for his activities in the resistance. #HolocaustRemembranceDay

I'd love to kick everyone who said don't vote for 'genocide Joe' in the crotch.

I have a big ask. My 9yo son is autistic and he’s been raising a betta fish he named Kevin. Yesterday He asked if he could “share a photo of Kevin with the whole world“. I don’t know if this will work, but a dad’s gotta try. Like and share if that’s your thing. Kevin says hi! 🐟👋

Hi old friends from the T-verse - I'm now joining you all in the Blue Sky. Expect to do most of my posting here from now. Had a nice Christmas gift card for an indy bookshop in Raleigh NC, so purchased a copy of Adam's book there today. (I like the jacket of the UK edition better, but still . . . )

The Folger has now posted "turning the page" versions of three of its Esther Inglis manuscripts: V.a.91, V.a.92 and V.a.93 (for Prince Maurice of Nassau - newly digitized). Give each a moment to load, then enjoy! Sctoll down on this page to find them. www.folger.edu/whats-on/lit...

Starting this week sorting out figures for my Element, and I just have to include the actual signature of Clemenzia Sostegni somewhere, and this letter that has her name with that of Virginia Galilei, showing that Virginia took her place in the convent. #nuntastic musical nun genealogy #archives

Please consider participating in this exciting initiative on early modern women and religion on Thursday 23 January 9-10:30 am EST

I am happy to announce a new initiative, the Early Modern Women and Religion seminar, a virtual forum intended to generate new ideas for the study of early modern British and Irish women and religion. We will meet once a semester. Both established and ECRs (including graduate students) are welcome.

Today in Tudor History, 2 January 1536, Imperial ambassador to Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, Eustace Chapuys visited his friend Catherine of Aragon, the first wife of King Henry VIII for the last time. #TudorHistory #History #TudorDynasty #Anglophile

Been wanting an earlyish Catullus—reading his poetry was when Latin first clicked for me—and ended up with this cheap copy of Gryphius’s 1548 edition. Turns out it was owned by the great Scottish book collector and anti-Union figure, Andrew Fletcher (1655–1716).

It’s been a long time coming… so thrilled to share the cover (and Oxford UP website last in 🧵) for my book, _Lineage: Genealogy and the Power of Connection in Early America_, pub date 7.2.25 (but will ship, so they say very enticingly, mid-June. 1/ #VastEarlyAmerica 🗃️

Margaret Paston Advent Day 22. Margaret refers to ‘disguising’ as a Christmas activity. We know the Pastons enjoyed Mummers Plays at Castor. We even have a fragment of what seems to be their ‘script’ for Robin Hood & the Sheriff of Nottingham. Trinity College, Cambridge, MS. R. 2. 64 (fragment).
