Happy #makeaterriblecomicday2025! It’s mandatory that you create some piece of sequential art — what it is and how you make it is up to you! Have fun! You might as well!

If you’re looking for a simple, powerful and effective way to show solidarity with disabled and marginalized people… wear a mask. You will protect your health and the health of those around you. You will help fight mask bans. You will send a clear message that no one is expendable.

Ken Sim says the $5 million Vancouver Police task force is a VPD initiative. The VPD says it’s a joint initiative of them and council. But council has never approved the funding, and the VPD chair wasn’t informed it was happening. Here’s my story on a very confusing question of accountability.

Library privacy question: there is a library user whose name became a verb and library workers shared their messages on social media. Now they are back with more requests & their name and asks are being publicly shared again. Is this not a violation of patron privacy? 📚 📜

Nice to hear some (brief) discussion about the importance of library collections and preservation of physical objects vs digitized version of those objects. (Plus, you know, all the other stuff.) 📚

Little Nemo in Slumberland by Winsor McCay from June 24, 1906.

I have to say, one of my major podcast-related pet peeves are podcasts who don't actually provide a direct link to download the episode.

the japanese poster for this one is fucking insane oh my god

100% of anti air conditioning takes could be resolved by simply having the people who say those things say them while in Delhi in June

well, higher learning...it had a good run

As respected commentators like Darnielle call the race for Mamdani, the Democratic party's thoughts must turn to how it has drifted so far from the electorate.

Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service Omnibus vol. 6 now has a publication date of January 20, 2026. Originally announced for July 2024, then bumped back to October 2024, then March 2025. Maybe it'll finally come out?

A great thread on the realities of why trying to make video cassette tapes today is more of a hassle than it's worth. NGL though, as fun as retro media can be to collect, and it is, VHS is legitimately not a great format for a variety of reasons because of how it can degrade and be damaged easily.

Anyone have a list of ARCs, signings, or parties at the American Library Association conference this weekend? #ALAAC25

Most of the guests you see at anime cons have day jobs. "Anime convention guesting" is not a career path, will not pay your rent, and does not come with health insurance

I had an idea for an "abstracts only" journal experiment that wouldn't let journals subscribe and the fee for 24 hour access would be like $599 so nobody would ever pay. Then I'd track to see how many of these "articles" ended up getting cited. 📚

#TradeMagWeek DAY 1: Electronic Gaming Retail News From the publishers of Electronic Gaming Monthly, EGRN was one of the first video game trade magazines, running from 1991–1993. With help from @kohler.bsky.social, we've digitized 11 of its 12 issues! archive.gamehistory.org/folder/3e35f...

If you didn’t want it when it was on the shelf for free, and you didn’t want it when it was on the sale rack for $1, and it’s too old, dirty, and inaccurate to be donated, we toss it.

i am BEGGING you before you pop off about paywalls to go to your local library's website and scroll through their digital resources. mine gives me access to NYT, WSJ, WaPo and if its linked with PressReader or a similar app, all the news magazines, sports, fashion, hobby etc. FOR FREE.

Where do historians learn about big "news" in their fields of interest? Or does research just percolate in group chats & on subreddits and paywalled academic journals? Wondering, for instance, about big revelations in the past five years about the US invasion of Iraq. (Not trying to set up a joke)

The fact that 'Substack' is already largely synonymous with 'newsletter' in a lot of minds is a big problem—Nazis and transphobes and hate speech, yes, but also, competition results in better products.

This is incredible

Hey, one of the things you learn when you get certified to teach exercise class is that this isn't true. People who are in great shape can also suffer from heat exhaustion and stroke, and you have to be more careful of it because the symptoms can be harder to spot until it's too late.

I just got offered a single day of access to an academic article published in a Canadian journal in 1932 for $49US. The journal is almost certainly funded in whole or in part by Federal grants. Anyway.

Someone sent me a DM to say they strongly disagreed with a video I made. When I asked what part was incorrect they came back and admitted they’d only watched the first 30 seconds before messaging but now that they’d seen the entirety nevermind I was correct. Ah the internet lol.

Local, middle-aged woman outside the Europa Hotel in Belfast just now: "It's called 28 Years Later but I don't know what it's about - is it the Good Friday Agreement?

The thing about the Khalil case is that it's very very good that he's free now but you can't have it take three months between "the government kidnaps you off the street for no basis reason whatsoever" and "a judge makes them let you go." You just can't.
