An introductory blog on @rewildyourland.bsky.social and why I feel rewilding is the right response to the biodiversity crisis

Absolutely zero requirements to pump out these habitats Bord na Mona. Currently in use by Whoopers with frog spawning season a stones throw away and Lapwing nesting season in a few weeks time.

On #WorldWetlandsDay2025 we'd love to have something to present to you all, but unfortunately a semi-state has other ideas. #biodiversityloss photos.app.goo.gl/Yn8TpxFmrnxf...

This evening we have emailed @darraghobrientd.bsky.social requesting an immediate meet, as the new climate & environment Minister, to bring awareness and request an immediate end to current practices on bogs here which have desecrated habitats of nesting red listed species of conservation.

#whatoncewas A once familiar scene at this time of year on these bogs. Unfortunately just a memory now due to the unnecessary actions of a semi-state pumping water off bogs, removing these habitats.

#whatoncewas All species should be given fair & safe opportunities, particularly red listed species of conservation. However that's far from the case here as ongoing pumping of these bogs puts nesting Lapwings in even greater danger.Despite calls on Gov & Ministers to act, #biodiversityloss continues

"One thing that unites Ireland, is how badly we treat the natural world" says @irishrainforest.bsky.social Rewilding could also unite our island! www.irishnews.com/life/stunnin...

Posted a video in our WhatsApp Updates channel just now and felt the need to repost here to yet again raise awareness of the disgraceful #biodiversityloss on bogs here. Too long to post here, so please view at the below link.

#whatoncewas Kestrels would often hunt on these bogs, but with the depletion of habitats comes the loss of species.

We're always looking for new ways to raise awareness about our bogs here and the importance they hold. From the good to the bad, everything within these lands is in the publics interest and awareness is paramount. That's why we've now created a new WhatsApp "Updates" channel....

1/2. The ink is still wet on the #pfg & BNM are already out clearing out drains in bogs that should be rewet & transitioned into safe areas for species of conservation, instead of forcing the likes of Whoopers off them. Is it any wonder biodiveristy is wrecked in this Country.

#whatoncewas An example of some of the sights and sounds missing from our bogs this year as these habitats continue to needlessly desecrated. The reality of #biodiversityloss behind the greenwashing.

#whatoncewas A hidden world that once was within our bogs before it was desecrated. Home to Tadpoles, Frogs, fish, Bladderwort, amongst other life-forms. Needlessly removed and adding to an already critical biodiversity emergency. When you think of #biodiversityloss, let these bogs be the image.

#whatoncewas An experience that has now been lost from these bogs as a result of unnecessary #biodiversityloss. We will continue to bring awareness to what takes place on these bogs by a semi-state during a Gov declared #biodiversityemergency. Questions asked = countless Answers received = 0

#whatoncewas An example of the #biodiversityloss that goes unquestioned on bogs here. Frog spawn exposed due to outdated pumping activities and nobody questioned. This is the hidden reality that's hidden from the public.

#whatoncewas Whoopers would return to these bogs, their habitats, on a yearly basis. Unnecessary habitats destruction has resulted in Whoopers not being able to return to these bogs this year with sustained & outdated pumping activities. #biodiversityloss on a massive scale without question.

#whatoncewas These bogs, year on year have proven to be a vital habitat for red listed species of conservation. The safety of these bogs has unfortunately been lost with needless #biodiversityloss, putting already endangered species in an even more precarious situation.

#whatoncewas With habitats removed off these bogs, Whoopers, Mutes and others have been eradicated from these very lands. #biodiversityloss with no accountability.

A reminder of #whatoncewas. #biodiversityloss on our bogs. An unnecessary act.

I've put together an 'Ireland - Nature & Climate Starter Pack' with just a few of those I feel are working hardest to champion wild nature and a stable climate on this island. Of course, it's very far from comprehensive: I'll be adding to it over time! go.bsky.app/HiM2kaD

An example of the biodiversity of #whatoncewas on these bogs. Raising awareness of needless #biodiversityloss.

Please welcome the @irishwildlifetrust.bsky.social to Bluesky! Fighting with passion for Irish nature since 1979, give them a follow!!!

They're loving the little bit of additional grub this morning.

1/3. As another year draws to a close, we want to thank you for your ongoing support and wish you and yours a happy New Year. Like every other year that has passed,we will treat 2025 no differently and will continue to collect biodiversity data and ongoing desecration records on these bogs whilst..

Continuing with awareness of #biodiversityloss. #whatoncewas

Awareness continues. #whatoncewas

Raising awareness. #whatoncewas

To continue raising awareness of the deliberate biodiversity loss taking place on bogs here, we will post daily pics of some examples of nature recorded from throughout the years that has been needlessly driven out as a result of the removal of their habitats. #whatoncewas

More losses this afternoon.Initial clip is previously rewet bog.Additional clip is from a follower having discovered the complete pump out of this section. This bog is directly linked onto the proposed MSWP boglands and always attracted Whoopers, hence why it has been pumped out. youtu.be/5bbFKwOujek

1/2. Another year draws to a close and another year has been lost to deliver a biodiversity positive step like never before. The scenario around planning raises more eyebrows as a former BNM employee is signing off on case numbers on behalf of ABP without a conflict of interest declared.
