The Gates of the Idalakar, beyond which lies the city of Vakorum, most powerful of the independent cities of Mars. The statue that caps the gate is a representation of the Idalakar hiapta, a long extinct raptor that is the royal seal of the Red Princes of Vakorum.

I'm spending a little time Christmas Eve while the potatoes boil to work on the fourth draft of my book. Originally called "Swift Versus The Russians" (hey, don't mock me, the new working title is "Mars Ascending"), an alternative science fiction-fantasy version of Mars set during the Cold War.

Ugghhh. Woke up at 3:30 this morning with serious monkey brain. Ended up finishing work on a new draft of the fourth draft of my novel. I wish someone would have told me editing a book is about as pleasant as a root canal. On a side note, I expect a visit from the grammar police any time now.
