Mohsen Mahdawi, who has been a green-card holder for 10 years, was detained at an ICE field center in Vermont while appearing for a naturalization test — a key step on the path to U.S. citizenship. wapo.st/3Y36270

“Mommy, no. Mommy.” Daughter captures the moment masked ICE agents smash the window of her mother's car in order to take her into custody. The government claims the 52-year old seamstress is an associate of the MS-13 gang. www.thebaltimorebanner.com/community/lo...

One of so many examples. This is how economies work. Cascading effects when things are chaotic. Hard to build businesses on top of uncertainty and chaos.

"History will remember this day— when an American President and Vice President abandoned all we stand for."

What an embarrassing question.

This guy is a hero! Everything to lose, but the ultimate courage. And no, he didn't start the war.

Good point. Me saving thousands of dollars by not paying my mortgage does not mean I saved money.

The US is suddenly putting our faith in Putin instead of Ukraine. How does this end well?!

A point to consider.

They are just swinging sledgehammers in the dark.

So many stories.

Wait, what? NIH is slashing indirect cost rates to 15%? Many universities and medical centers currently operate with 50-70% indirect rates, which cover essential infrastructure—lab space, grant administration, IT, and compliance. Most of these institutions simply don't have extra money.

Do your own research. Literally. The federal government is trying to stop funding it. The U of O had $161 million in (fiscal year) 2024. If the NIH 15% indirect rate plays out for all/any federal grants, this would mean an IMMEDIATE loss of approximately $36,000,000 to the University of Oregon.

now that's how you write a headline www.nytimes.com/2025/02/05/o...

How are we here?!?

Ending birthright citizenship? Ended. Funding freeze? Flopped. Tariffs? Tanked. We made our voices heard - but this is no time to stop. The real dangers are still here: Elon Musk just got access to our private info and the entire govt’s payment system. Refocus, reengage, and let’s keep fighting.

Elon Musk's reported data breach at the Treasury Dept. is wrong and puts your personal info, including your Social Security numbers, at risk. As we fight to prevent him from having access, I urge each of you to lock down your social security numbers and print out your benefit pages.

Congress controls the money, not Musk.

“So you’re a world leader and you’ve been threatened by the American president. What now?” @dgraham.bsky.social writes in The Atlantic Daily.

So critical to keep our eye on the ball.

A witch hunt has begun at the FBI. Employees are required to provide information by Tuesday and are being encouraged to report on their coworkers. The FBI questionnaire asks agents about their roles in various cases, including whether they made arrests or appeared in court, among other details.

Art of the.....???

Complacency about the Musk/Trump administration has been a self-defeating prophecy open.substack.com/pub/paulkrug...

One of my party facts is that according to polls, Americans believe foreign aid is about 25% of the federal budget and on average that it *should* be about 10%. The actual number is less than 1%. Foreign aid has long been a boogey man of the right, so it's not surprising they're vilifying it now.

It is astonishing that mainstream media is covering this like it is a shruggie vibe 🤷‍♂️
