I have a sports metaphor story for this! I have a younger brother who was a very competitive baseball player as a kid. Was on all the local travel & developmental squads. One of his coaches had a very interesting and counterintuitive (to me) philosophy of the game, as it was played at that level.

There's a story in the Star today on what happened with the Bloor bike lanes, and it's this attitude that has soured me towards the idea of localism. Its primary expression in Canadian politics is often a parochial mindset that just because *you* live somewhere, you get a veto over everything.

The ebikes in the Toronto Bike Share are a game changer. I think if more people tried them, it'd have a huge impact on people's transportation choices.
