People are so enthusiastic and always excited to look through a telescope at the night sky. πŸ”

M81 and M82 imaged by #Seestar S50 and #Dwarf3. Both images stacked from the raw subs. The scopes were out for the same elapsed time, but the Seestar was in framing mode so captured 1 hour of data in alt-az, whereas the Dwarf captured almost 2 hours of data in EQ mode. #astrophotography πŸ”

Had the #Seestar out in framing mode on M81 and M82 tonight. The 3D printed dew/light shield helped with the gradient from local street lights. This is a quick process of the Seestar stacked fits file. I'll debayer, register and stack the raw fits files tomorrow. #astrophotography #astronomy

Hello UK folks: if you’re looking to preorder books, Waterstones is running a preorder sale this weekend, and my upcoming book on all the ways the stars have taught us about the cosmos is a part of it! πŸ§ͺπŸ”πŸ“šπŸ“–πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ”¬ www.waterstones.com/book/forty-w...

First #Solar image in a while. Best 25% of frames taken with #Seestar using a 3D printed Baader solar filter, stacked in PlanetarySystemStacker and post-processed with deconvolution and solar toolbox in PixInsight. #astrophotography πŸ”

This image of the Sun is a little different from my others as it was captured with a SHG700 spectroheliograph that β€œscans” across the Sun’s Ha line in one pass. To see how this image was captured see this video : youtube.com/watch?v=12i1... Thanks to MLAstro for letting me try it!

One of the best and most impactful experiences of my life! Please share this with anyone you know who likes astronomy and is between 18 and 24 years old! πŸ”πŸͺ (Feel free to ask me any questions about it too!)

A great bit of public outreach from @astroroyalscot.bsky.social the Astronomer Royal for Scotland Catherine Heymans. A must follow for anyone into #Astronomy

Processing M101 from @astronomyedinburgh.bsky.social remote 12" Murrell telescope in Spain. Stacked (with 2x drizzle) from the raw LRGB 300s subs and cropped to highlight the galaxy. #astronomy #astrophotography

Just processed 4 90s videos of Jupiter from 05 February taken with C925. Each video was processed in AstroSurface, then derotated and combined in WinJupos, then colour balanced, sharpened using deconvolution and a bit of curves transformation for saturation. #astrophotography #nationalastronomyweek

I did two of these camps some years ago (the exact number will remain secret πŸ˜€) and they were great fun! Highly recommended πŸ‘. Great to see @iayc.bsky.social still organising these events. πŸ”

Another smart scope image from last night, this time the Tadpole Nebula in Auriga imaged by the #Dwarf3 πŸ”. This is just over 2 hours of data, stacked and processed in PixInsight, with the nebula in HOO palette and the stars in RGB. #astrophotography

A picture of Jupiter from 20.15 tonight (day 5 of #NationalAstronomyWeek). Only processed one video so far. C9.25 πŸ” at f10, 90s video, best 5% of frames stacked in AstroSurface. The new NTB storm is clearly visible at the upper left. #astrophotography

πŸ₯³ It's Day 5 of #NationalAstronomyWeek and most of the UK is cloud free, so you all have no excuse! Go outside and #DoLookUp. πŸ”πŸ§ͺ This is the view from my home in Portobello Edinburgh 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, looking South West! 🀩 ℹ️ www.astronomyweek.org.uk

Here's the 3D printed dew/light shield for the #Seestar πŸ” and a short mosaic (interrupted by clouds) of IC443 (the Jellyfish Nebula). Hopefully clear skies tomorrow will allow me to add to this image and improve the signal to noise ratio. #astrophotography

It's Day 4 of #NationalAstronomyWeek and it's raining in Edinburgh😠 Tonight it's the turn of the South West, Wales and the Midlands for clear(ish) skies. Do send me see your photos of the moon so I can add it to the timeline. Tonight you'll find it half way between Jupiter and Venus! πŸ”

While I had the big scope on the Moon and Jupiter last night, I had the #Dwarf3 πŸ” on IC443, the Jellyfish Nebula. This is 332 x 15s exposures, gain 60, stacked and processed in PixInsight. #astrophotography This is with an LED streetlight some 8 to 10 feet from the smartscope!
