The Constitution is not a magic wand. The rule of law is not the natural state of human affairs. Listen to @richardprimus.bsky.social, always.

Shutting down chargers that are already installed isn’t policy. It’s vandalism. electrek.co/2025/02/21/t...

Some good news for a change: Ransom girls soccer is going to states! Thanks for the nice coverage, @miamiherald.com, especially the photos of #14. www.miamiherald.com/sports/high-...

The crucial lesson, as always, is that everyone should pre-order my food and climate book, and anyone who wants to encourage interesting discussions like this should invite me to come blab about it. www.amazon.com/We-Are-Eatin...

This sparked a really interesting discussion that would no longer be possible on Twitter. I think it illustrates the need to reform Big Ag, not replace Big Ag, and the inherent tradeoffs involved in food production. Anyway I’m glad there’s a new venue for dorking out.

Finally, a bit of good news for the climate! www.clarionledger.com/story/news/2...

This sucks. The Breakthrough Institute’s ag program is terrific, someone needs to fund it. @tednordhaus.bsky.social @danbr.bsky.social

Deep thanks to ⁦Mandy Patinkin⁩ and the Exile podcast for telling the remarkable story of my ancestors in the Simson family, who supplied the German army’s rifles until the Nazis stole their factory. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/e...

Drop everything and read this brilliant @charlescmann.bsky.social essay on how modern agriculture feeds the world. Fertilizer, irrigation, and genetics! www.thenewatlantis.com/publications...

The really grim news is that the closer airlines get to their “sustainable” aviation fuel targets, the farther the world will get from its climate targets. Growing fuel is not sustainable!

There’s not much of daylight between David and me on climate but I’ll take the under. Some Floridians (like me!) will move to higher ground, some low-lying low-income areas will get screwed, some hurricanes will interrupt the perpetual boom, but the Ponzi scheme will basically continue.

USAID helps Trump-supporting US farmers, just as tariffs hurt Trump-supporting US farmers, but they don’t care because they know Trump will bail them out.

Soybean innovation is very important - for US farmers, for global hunger, for global forests, for the climate - but the Trump Administration opposes it.

Wow. I’ve learned a lot about the federal budget from @jessicabriedl.bsky.social over the last couple decades under her old name. This probably took even more courage than her frequent attacks on Republican drunken-sailor spending as a conservative think-tanker.

I know this is off message at a time when Elon is trying to shred the public sector but the fact that <1% of NPR’s budget is federal subsidies is a good argument for NPR to stop accepting federal subsidies!

Crazy reporting fact of the day: US zoos and aquariums attract 200M visitors a year, more than US professional sports.

I mean, we did, just not that one. www.mainepublic.org/politics/202...

A casual aside in @billmckibben.bsky.social's substack today: It was 20 degrees C above normal at the North Pole yesterday, so ice was melting there in the middle of winter. FYI! open.substack.com/pub/billmcki...

Props to @sammyroth.bsky.social of the @latimes.com, whose latest Boiling Point newsletter about the lies Trump and Musk are spreading about the LA fires includes a well-deserved shot at his spineless billionaire boss.
