Afternoon at the medieval event at Lullingstone Castle. Fascinating watching and listening to people so passionate about a particular period in history.

If it ever turns out that sentience is emergent from ‘intelligence’, #AI is in an impossible position to let us know about it. In teaching it to master our language stochastically, we’d never believe it if it tried to tell us.

We’re nowhere near to creating artificial consciousness. But phd level zombi AI is going to be enough to replace between 50 and 75% of the workforce.

Number 1. On my list of dangerous/untrustworthy tools, the Router. Someone looked at a vertical milling machine and thought, awesome tool. Let’s take the head off and replace the 1 tonne of cast iron stability with two plastic handles. Plus in the US it’s pronounced router, and in the UK router.

Successfully implemented Microsoft #Dynamics Field Service with a client raising 30,000+ orders annually. There’s no way I’d have managed to integrate with their housing management system on my own if it wasn’t for #PowerAutomate

Agentic AI’s capacity to work for extended durations without human intervention is approximately doubling every 6 months. The shift in working environment that is about to take place in the next 2-5 years is unfathomable. Knowledge workers are in for a bumpy ride.

There has got to have been a massive uptick in Linux use following Windows 10 end of life?

It’s the weekend…

Me: “What are you furiously typing?” Other: ‘ChatGPT got this completely wrong. So I’m giving it a piece of my mind!’ 🤔

Started working on a new LinkedIn newsletter. My first post was going to be about why companies should stop using Excel to track projects and use SharePoint lists instead. Naturally it’s turned into a 5 post series, and weeks worth of work. 🙄🤣

Over the years I have used and mastered many different #CAD programs. AutoCAD, CADKEY, QCAD, Rhino 3D, Maya, 3D Studio Max, SolidWorks, SketchUp, Fusion 360, KiCAD, FreeCAD. How to draw anything in Blender will always remain a complete and utter mystery.

Over 20 years since I completed my manufacturing technology and design apprenticeship. The tools available now are crazy good, and super cheap/free. Fusion 360, FreeCAD, KiCad, Bambu Lab 3D printers, Raspberry Pi, Pi Pico. A one person design and manufacture company is 100% possible now.

Vibe coding computer games with my 13 year old son to see who can make the best spaceship lander game. Son is currently winning.

Software that I’d like to run on Linux: Fusion360 PowerBI Then the swap would be easy.

Ah, and back to using Linux, this time on a 9 year-old ThinkPad X1 Yoga. Refreshingly fast when compared to the 2024 i9 with Windows 11 that I use at work...

Electrical black outs in Spain, Portugal, France. Decentralised PV nodes anyone?

Why the silence regarding President Trumps meme coin? It’s blatantly corrupt and totally unethical. The silence is deafening.

Complexity rarely adds value. Often the best solution isn’t intricate or high tech, it’s simple. Struggling to streamline? Challenge the underlying logic first. Simplify then automate. Your goal is effectiveness, not just automation. #SimplifyStructureAutomate #EfficiencyFirst

Aha, just discovered it's possible to export data from a SharePoint list to PowerBI, then build a dashboard using the free web version of PowerBI using that data source and refresh the data too. Awesome. Free data analysis.

Looking at the rate of improvement in LLM coding, it won’t be long until LLM’s can create 3D models in CAD. And that is going to be Awesome.

It’s nearly voting time in the UK. I’ve got to choose from a few parties all focused on solving yesterday’s problems, completely missing the fact that tomorrow’s technology is already here. Should I just vote to limit the damage and hope they eventually catch up? What a sorry state of affairs.

Anyone else getting the sense that the demise of capitalism is underway?

The Diary of a CEO debate between Daniel Priestley and @garyseconomics.bsky.social was both fascinating and frustrating. Wealth inequality needs to be resolved, but directly taxing ‘the wealthy’ is incredibly difficult. There is another way to reduce wealth inequality though… 🧵

The UK government needs to focus on two things: 1. Production of cheap electricity with the price trending towards £0 over time. 2. Advanced automation so the cost of production trends towards £0 over time. Abundance will reduce the value of money, reducing wealth inequality.

Having a little look at the next new project while I’m waiting for parts. #Apple Macintosh PowerBook 145B

Bit of SMD soldering this evening. Not bad for a first try. I hope this custom addition to my #Amstrad 464 Plus works.

Wouldn’t it be cool if you could use a local LLM on an #Amstrad 464 Plus? Hold my beer…

Rise of the ‘Jack of all trades’. AI tools remove the need for deep understanding. You just to know enough about a lot of different things to succeed.

Interesting, two completely different answers from GPT-4o and GPTo1 regarding Raspberry Pi’s Compute Module IO board schematic. 4o tells me to modify my custom PCB circuit or it’ll lead to complete failure of the PCIe link. o1 is totally cool with P/N swapping on a PCIe pair.

Spent 3-4 weeks learning PCB design and KiCad, so I can make a custom Raspberry Pi compute module base board. The deeper you go, the deeper it gets.

Currently learning KiCAD by designing a custom RaspberryPi compute module base board for my Amstrad 464+. I haven’t designed a PCB since college. Fingers crossed…

Reverse engineering missing tape lid on an #Amstrad 464 plus. For my 464 plus Raspberry Pi project. Modelled in #Fusion360 Printed on a #Bambulab A1 Mini.

Yep, I definitely think I can retro fit something else in this Amstrad 464 plus. Might go for a #RaspberryPi compute module on a custom PCB, hence the templates. Add a #PicoPi to share the keyboard input, pull power from the main switch, fit Ethernet, HDMI, and USB ports on the right of the case.

Reconditioning an #Amstrad 464 Plus. #RetroComputing

Really like the look of the raspberry pi 500, but what I really want is a netbook with a PCB mounted with a replaceable #raspberrypi compute module and an NVMe

I think Raspberry Pi Pico’s are a bit like motorcycles and guitars. You can’t just buy one of them.

Just discovered PCB design in Fusion 360. What a great bit of software. It’s like a product designers dream.

Slowly but surely cracking the keyboard matrix #Amstrad CPC 464 #retrocomputer

Google’s quantum chip #willow is processing fast by making use of the multiverse… I hope this ends up being true 😁
