What if I’m a journalist and I’ve got just a few questions?

Laid-off IRS employee said he had voted for Trump: "I thought that someone with his business acumen would have come in with a fine-tooth comb and actually found it instead of coming in with a wrecking ball and destroying people’s lives for no reason." www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/p...

NEW: The Education Department is “lifting the pause” on investigating civil rights complaints in schools — but only for disability cases. Race and gender investigations largely are still sitting idle. (Exceptions are the few priority cases such as one re: an all-gender bathroom in Denver)

A Texas lawmaker is moving to ban the use of unclaimed bodies for medical research following our @nbcnews.com investigation www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

"We will protect DOGE." This morning, Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Ed Martin — a "stop the steal" organizer and Jan. 6 defendant advocate — sent an email titled "Operation Whirlwind" in which he said he's personally launched an investigation into Sen. Chuck Schumer. The text:

While you were writing your anti-woke screed about the excesses of language guides issued by the Stanford University IT department, the state of Texas was moving to pass laws to force all teachers — even in blue cities —to misgender and deadname trans kids. www.texastribune.org/2025/02/17/t...

Recently finished this book by @ahylton26.bsky.social and can't recommend it enough. Brave, brilliant, illuminating, enraging. An extraordinary work that says so much about where we've been and where we are.

I would never have entered the Polk Awards in 2019 were it not for Susan Carroll insisting on it and no one was happier than she when I won. I’m so proud of her for this win and of @mikehixenbaugh.com & colleagues’ great work honoring her. I wish she was here to celebrate what she always deserved. 💔

No journalist deserved a Polk award more than my friend Susy Carroll She would have been so proud 💔 www.prnewswire.com/news-release...

Just finished listening to this book. Hixenbaugh pulls together many school-related media headlines from the past several years into a compelling narrative about the idealogical and political fights happening at the local level. He’s a great story-teller. Highly recommend!

The Trump admin appears to be doing what Project 2025 said it would at the Education Department, where investigations into alleged civil rights abuses have ground to a halt while the agency instead wields its power to punish schools for gender inclusive policies. www.propublica.org/article/depa...

NEW: At least three more DOJ Public Integrity Unit senior officials have resigned after meeting with Emil Bove on the Eric Adams case. Five in Public Integrity overall. That’s six officials who resigned, triple the number that happened during the Saturday Night Massacre.

"Arbitrary and capricious" A law that requires federal agencies to follow the correct process when making changes in policy is becoming a big hindrance to Trump and his shock and awe makeover of the government. New, from me 👇 www.nbcnews.com/politics/don...

The Trump admin's stated goal was to restore the name of a disgraced Confederate general to the North Carolina Army base once known as Fort Bragg, and to achieve that goal, they found a WWII soldier with the same last name and announced the base is now named for him www.nytimes.com/2025/02/10/u...

One federal law enforcement official called the order to withdraw the charges against Adams “horrific” and “just transparent corruption.” www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

"You disgust me," Vice President J.D. Vance wrote — not about the openly racist DOGE staffer who said he wanted to “normalize Indian hate” — but about a Democrat who criticized the staffer’s racist posts. www.nbcnews.com/politics/jd-...?

“On Wednesday, Musk shared a faked video claiming USAID had sponsored celebrity visits to Ukraine. Darren Linvill of Clemson University’s Media Forensics Hub told NBC News the video was manufactured Russian propaganda.” @brandyzadrozny.bsky.social on the origins of right’s USAID attacks

DOGE operative Marko Elez got the ability to alter US Treasury payment system code on Feb 1, WIRED's sources say. For days, Trump officials fed members of Congress and the press a different story. Elez is out now for posts reading "I was racist before it was cool" and "normalize Indian hate."

NEW: A Houston man and Jan. 6 defendant has been arrested for a child sex crime -- two weeks after he was pardoned by Trump and released from a six-year prison stint for assaulting police with bear spray and a metal whip.

Real shocker here. The 25 year old rooting around in the code of the US government's payment system likes to post things like "Normalize Indian hate." www.wsj.com/tech/doge-st...

Federal agencies buying subscriptions to a platform that provides wonky insights and analysis on federal policy is — objectively — not the biggest scandal in history
