To even mention this in a kids movie was unheard-of back then. Like it was huge. They'd do it again in box trolls, but this was the first I think I've ever actually seen be explicitly said they were gay in no uncertain terms.

I find it weird that people expect formulaic apologies from public figures and get mad when all of the boxes aren't ticked. Maybe don't incentivise people to follow arbitrary scripts?
