This perfectly describes every political cycle in my lifetime. Why people think Republicans are good for the economy is beyond me.

Research and data have proven that reading improves quality of life, increases empathy, increases test scores, leads to more successful and productive lives, makes people more creative, and helps people make better decisions about the world around them. www.millersbookreview.com/p/quiet-coll...

ICYMI: A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction to halt the elimination of IMLS in the case led by 21 state AGs. ALA welcomes the decision. We're reviewing the ruling to fully understand its implications and will share updates as they are available. www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

An expert on the Library of Congress tells Rolling Stone that Trump’s takeover attempt is “dangerous,” given that the Library’s sub-agencies provide confidential legal advice to members of Congress and help police misconduct by lawmakers.  www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

I mean, there are a lot of other, and better, electric cars now. Go ahead and keep your Tesla. And we'll keep keying it, throwing shit at it, and judging you for it. Sounds good to me.

This shit just seems petty and vengeful now. Who the fuck hates on libraries? Who the fuck fires the librarian for Congress? Seriously, why? Because you're a petty bitch who doesn't like it when people write shit down? Come on....

Senate Democrats unified in opposition to block the crypto-friendly bill that would have enabled Trump’s corruption. We were worried about losing some Democrats on this vote, so thank you for speaking up over the last day. Your calls definitely made a difference.

Seems like there's an easier way to make America better for everyone. That's what populism used to mean.

Episode XIV: A New Pope It is a period of civil war. Rebel lawyers, striking from countless courtrooms, have won their first victories against the evil Orange Empire…

I'm sorry, but you elect a Pope with the first name of Robert and make him Pope Leo? No no no. He is now and forever will be Pope Bob I to me.

The worst people in the world hate this pick for pope which is good enough for me

Most people don’t know this, but @PBS is part of the backbone of America’s emergency alert system. Helps push IPAWS alerts (AMBER, weather, etc.) Broadcast-based = works when cell towers go down Trusted info during crises Backup comms for first responders it’s national infrastructure #PBS

Omg same. Obama was so nice and boring after GWB. Biden was so nice and boring for a year or so after 🍊 term #1. And now....all I want in life is the luxury of blissful ignorance without the ever present fear of losing everything I love and hold dear. Some day...

remember folks, the president's proposed budget is just a wishlist. the thing congress gives back rarely has any resemblance to that list. i absolutely expect trump to try to drag the window as far right as he can in things like this

IMLS provides essential federal funding to expand access to libraries, strengthen workforce development, and promote lifelong learning across the nation. Trump's proposed budget eliminates this funding. Send an email today! bit.ly/42X7r0f via @everylibrary.bsky.social

For fuck sake. Yell at your reps. Now.

The NPR/PBS executive order is a sign of weakness. Republicans were going to put that cut into a rescission bill, which has been delayed as reconciliation took precedence. The likely story is that Republicans found that they didn't have the votes for it, so Trump had to go it alone.

Instead of ignoring Trump’s birthday parade on June 14, join us for a nationwide day of defiance. Let’s take to the streets on Flag Day to reject authoritarianism and show the world what democracy really looks like: www.nokings.org?SQF_SOURCE=i...

I see a lot of Dems meming on 🍊 voters waking up from the lies. Friends, that's how you force them back into their bubble. That's how you lose opportunity. Now is the time to embrace them, shake hands, commiserate, and form a united movement. The more 🍊 loses his base, the more his power erodes.

Too many people doing nothing but doomsaying. When people stop fighting, we lose. Feel powerless? Find a local group. Organize. Fight. Our founders won against a world power's military. We beat the government for civil rights, sufferage, and Vietnam. Trump is weak. We the people are strong.

❤️🇺🇲 #MayDay #Handsoff #NoKings

This is really important to note. #IMLS employees were/are on admin leave, not fired yet. A staff reduction order was going to go into effect May 4. Now with Judge Leon's ruling, the jobs of those IMLS employees are secure until the ALA's lawsuit is fully concluded.

Judge Leon granted a narrow temporary restraining order preventing further dismantling of #IMLS grants and employees. Not that there was much left... Full text here: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us... The full case and arguments for restitution are the next steps.

So what's next after today's May Day mobilizations? On June 14, Trump wants tanks in the street and a made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday. But real power isn't staged in DC. It rises up everywhere else. That's why we're planning a nationwide day of action to say No Kings. 🧵

BREAKING: Judge Richard Leon, a George W. Bush appointee, issues a TRO blocking the Trump administration from "dissolv[ing]" the Institute of Museum and Library Services, placing any more employees on administrative leave, or terminating any grants in the coming days.

Hearing from the grapevine that a few cancelled IMLS grant recipients who filed an appeal got their grants reinstated today. There is a 30-day appeal window. The quote below has more info and successful appeal language. Given Judge Leon's coming ruling, it's a good idea to jump on this now.
