It could also be that language policing is just too broad a concept. There is the notion that language matters and is political (correct) and then there's an entire politics built around public shaming and fear of guilt (often very bad!).

If people use slurs, or blatantly misgender someone, they should be corrected! We don't need to overlook this stuff out of fear of becoming a language cop. Railing against language policing always feels more like asking marginalized people to sideline themselves, it's a dogwhistle.
