Good afternoon Malawi! Here filming w/ @selfhelpafrica.org

This surely is the only way. The equivalent of the 2008 debt crisis. Requiring a European wide response. Beginning with a €300bn down-payment courtesy of the Russians, for reparations? (And a European rare-earth deal with the Ukrainians!) www.euractiv.com/section/defe...

Point of note: as far as I’m aware, Pres Zelensky has never asked U.S troops to fight in #Ukraine. He’s asked for military capability, training and mentoring, financial aid, and humanitarian support to enable his own forces to deter, degrade, and disrupt Putin’s invading force.

Can confirm. Former USAID here, and I’ve been approached twice in the last 30 days.

The evidence keeps on building…

100% accurate. Zelensky needs security assurances for relinquishing significant economic resources to Trump - and he’s not prepared to capitulate on this. Of note, not once has Trump condemned Putin’s invasion of #Ukraine.

When politicians call the Rhetoric versus Action card regarding Trump and #Ukraine. They should be incredibly cautious. Trump has already thrown other partners under the bus — the Government of Afghanistan, and the Syrian Democratic Forces.

The Kyiv Independent’s documentary about Ukrainian military medics who save lives on the front lines of Russia’s full-scale war will be screened in six more European cities in March 2025. Learn more: kyivindependent.com/kyiv-indepen...

WATCH| Joining the dots on what #Ukraine, Russia, U.S. and Europe are posturing on, regarding ceasefire deals. Including UNGA and UNSC votes, the ongoing minerals negotiations, and what the 0.2% uptick on UK Defence Expenditure might be spent on. youtu.be/nnE8fs0ILfo?...

If you’re curious about who Putin is. The depths at which he will go to for power? I could not recommend this book by John Sweeney highly enough. It’s a sobering read. On closing the final page, it may become clear to you why Trump is now aligning himself w/ Russia. Hopefully the USA will prevail.

Join me tonight for The #SecurityBrief just after 2030hrs on BBC World. Diving into the result of the UNGA and UNSC votes on Ukraine. The minerals deal, and what the UK’s 0.2% increase in Defence Expenditure might be used for. UK PM meets w/ Pres Trump on Thursday in Washington.

Putin has been antagonized since the fragmentation of the USSR, and the collapse of the Soviet Block in 1991. If you think Putin’s #1 priority hasn’t been to subject the West & NATO to the same fate, then think again. Trump is walking blind into Putin’s plan, with greed being Trump’s vulnerability.

Having served as a Moscow correspondent in the early days of Putin's reign, this reminds me of how the Kremlin took over its own press pool and made sure that only compliant journalists were given access.

Free speech and the 1st Amendment is alive and well … or B!

Nothing should surprise you. If you’re a compassionate citizen, everything should concern you. You can’t change the past. You might be able to change the future.

WATCH: Today’s #SecurityBrief. Two different peace deals, two different votes at the UN General Assembly today. @cfraserbbc.bsky.social and I piece it all together for you. Your personal update on the latest in #Ukraine youtu.be/minlDU2VTe4?...

Sanctions still have gaps. For example Russia’s Orenshnik missile is identified (through debris analysis) to include Western components used to control the IRBM. Fanuc (Japan), Siemens, and Haidenhein (both Germany) for example.

a lot of money for a small staff that doesn't have offices & wrecks rather than builds fully loaded with fringe benefits, you could pay about 200 GS-15 (top of the regular federal scale) civic technologists at USDS or TTS *for a year* for that money what's a better use of your tax dollars? 🤔

Brilliant analysis from Mikey

WATCH: Last night’s #SecurityBrief takes a deep dive into #Ukraine. What is the path to peace for Zelensky? And what do the players want. Is Putin going to offer Trump a better economic deal that would torpedo Zelensky’s? Your primer below. youtu.be/6TyPYihAJhs?...

The #SecurityBrief is back tonight at just after 2030hrs (Wednesday 19 Feb), on BBC World. Taking a deep dive into the positions of Zelensky, Putin, Europe and Trump. And how that plays out. Do join me.

Genius. By Portuguese Cartoonist ZezVaz. A throwback to China’s Tiananmen Square, June 1989.

1. Trump’s isolationist approach to Ukraine undermines the security of Europe. Any negotiations on a peace deal for Ukraine should have Europe’s interests at the core. Article 2 of the UN charter is on Sovereignty. This should take precedence, otherwise expansionist tendencies won’t be addressed.
