I work with the fine folks at @itep.org. State/fed tax policy, corporate tax, financial accounting, dogs, surf, go Washington Spirit. Glass half empty but trying real hard to fill it. "DM me to save 40% on your taxes!"

Call me a collaborationist, but I don't think this is the way. The Post still has solid people working to publish the truth. Even if Bezo's plans come to fruition, won't WaPo then be basically another @wsj.com -- great news coverage, ignore the editorial page? www.npr.org/2025/02/28/n...

The “uncertain tax benefits” concept, as implemented 20 yrs ago, was meant to be a road map— for investors and tax administrators—to tax avoidance, a way to gauge which companies are taking probably-illegal tax positions. But it takes on a whole new meaning when the IRS is being dismantled.

Micron Corp's annual 10-k report's tax rate reconciliation shows a $41 million increase in 2024 tax expense due to "change in unrecognized tax benefits." UTB table shows a $54M increase due to current year positions, and an $89M decrease due to prior years. (1/x) investors.micron.com/static-files...

Oh snap: "It is probably not fair to the British prime minister of the late 1930s, Neville Chamberlain, to compare him to President Donald Trump." www.nybooks.com/online/2025/...

A talking point against the Corporate Transparency Act's beneficial ownership requirement-- which would, gasp, require shell companies to disclose their owners-- is that "the average small business owner" would see $8,000 in compliance costs. I found this a very helpful backgrounder on the evolution of the mostly-dead Corporate Transparency Act from @elizabethbitmeehan.com .

This is the correct take. It was obvious 2 decades ago that Jeff Bezos is a terrible human being and that Amazon is a destroyer of American's main street businesses. It is now, as it was then, totally feasible to never ever buy from Bezos. If you have an Amazon membership, just cancel it already.

Here's your regular reminder that the Twitter page of the guy Trump has tapped to run the IRS still says, even now, "DM me to save 40% on your taxes." His advertised capacity to help people cheat on said taxes is Billy Long's only relevant credential. therevolvingdoorproject.org/no-corporate...

RE Jeff Bezos' planned weekly homages to "free markets": I can't think of another business whose success has so transparently relied on short-circuiting the workings of free markets. From the very beginning, Amazon's competitive advantage was built on tax avoidance. (1/x) www.npr.org/2025/02/26/n...

#uswnt performance in SheBelieves Cup against a very capable Australian team this weekend was doubly impressive b/c: 1) none of the 11 starters started the last match against Colombia. 2) (at least?) 8 different NWSL teams were represented by those playing for #uswnt. www.espn.com/soccer/lineu...
