WASHINGTON (AP) - Trump administration says it is eliminating more than 90% of USAID's foreign aid contracts, documents show.

“How Elon runs it, how he’s hired people.” “How Elon runs it, how he’s hired people.” “How Elon runs it, how he’s hired people.” HOW ELON RUNS IT, HOW HE’S HIRED PEOPLE

More not so fun measles facts 🦠wipes out up to 73% of your antibodies to bacterial and viral infections (immune amnesia) 🦠prior to the vaccine, measles killed 2.6 million people a year 🦠can survive 2 hours in a room after an infected person leaves 🦠99% of unimmunized that are exposed are infected

This includes the idea that once they have made massive cuts to agency workforces, the second plan (due April 14, they're not waiting around here) should include plans to potentially relocate gov offices away from Washington. Literally dismantling the federal government.

Insightful analysis from @mattdpearce.com on the toxic effects of "bullshit" and the "destruction of patience" in U.S. society and politics. Really worth the read. mattdpearce.substack.com/p/journalism...

Just hearing about VA's (the state, not the dept.) "help" offered to laid-off feds--essentially "update your resumé, here's a job board". 2nd time today I've mentally screamed MOTHERFUCKER! I am SO sick of people thinking people can just grab a job from the job tree, let alone in this scenario.

Update from a source on the @latimes buyouts: Roughly 48 people in the newsroom took buyouts, with the largest group (~16 people) coming from the reporting ranks. About eight are managers. This is a pretty significant chunk of the remaining staff.

As federal research grants continue to be frozen, and NIH staff is being gutted, please note this study was funded by federal research grants, including from NIH. If they continue with staff cuts, and continue to freeze new awards, this is just one example of what we lose.

Not wolves, but the Red Wolf + Mexican gray wolf recovery programs could certainly be next... The head of FWS' black-footed ferret recovery program was fired earlier this month, along w/ 2 employees who worked at a captive breeding facility. Funding has been frozen too.

"Harryisim" Find your something and let's get to work! Love most of y'all 🫶🏽

Watching a video describing various formulae involved in project Earned Value Management is a challenging ask on a good day, nearly a hopeless cause right now. Feels absolutely ridiculous to be slogging my way through this like there's still going to BE a job market by the time I'm done...

Again, folks seem not to grasp how much this is a total collapse of the Constitutional order. A random private citizen is running the "Cabinet" meeting of POTUS & the Principal Officers of the Executive Departments, & going around unplugging large portions of the government. And we're all just 🤷‍♂️

I'm often critical of the British lobby but when Cummings tried this stunt against left wing outlets the whole lobby boycotted until they backed down. The US press are pathetic.

am I allowed to swear here? cause I'm about to do a LOT of swearing... 😡

Folks, this was exactly 10 years go.

Since I’ve spoken on the floor of Congress about QAnon in 2020, I have warned about fantasy-based policy promulgated by the insane. Absorb this link. Read it. These are the belief systems of thousands of state and federal GOP lawmakers now. Complete f-ing lunacy. azmirror.com/briefs/gop-l...

Apparently been (at least) 8 years since our creepy senator held one here, and that went poorly even then. "Rep" hasn't ever. It would certainly be interesting if anyone took this up...

Measles isn’t just a rash. Sure it can be sometimes, but it can also lead to death. The 1st death has been recorded in West Texas outbreak. I commend the many parents coming forward now and getting their kids protected. It’s never too late to get a vaccine. apnews.com/article/meas...

How things feel

If this goes into effect, it will crush higher ed in the U.S.: mass layoffs, slashed services, and even higher tuitions. When coupled with the government firings, it will cause a sharp recession just as the Republicans slash nutritional and medical support for the poor. And that’s the point.

Saying this again: you might think that the Joann closures are not a big deal, but you have no idea how many small businesses rely on Joanns for supplies they can’t get in-person anywhere else. “Just buy your fabric online” is a suggestion from someone who knows NOTHING about buying fabric.

The AP was banned from the event but the French press corps conspired to get a US AP reporter inside and insisted she be allowed to ask her question.

Feb. 25, 1925: The Indiana state Senate is thrown into chaos when 18 Democratic members refuse to attend, 13 of them crossing into Ohio so they can't be compelled. The defiant move prevents a quorum and frustrates the Republican majority from acting on a gerrymandering bill. 1/2

Ukraine-HK solidarity might not be something one would expect, but it's real, and has been a thing before Russia's invasion A quick recap of the timeline: Nov 2013 - Feb 2014) Maidan Movement, Ukraine Sep - Dec 2014) Umbrella Movement, HK ... Jun - Jul 2020) Revolution of Our Times, HK

The government punishing a law firm for defending a client seems like the kind of tyranny we fought a revolution against.

55 years ago today, Ernie sang Rubber Duckie on Sesame Street for the first time, and it was an instant hit! The song became so beloved that it was released as a single—and by September, it had floated all the way to #16 on the Hot 100.

OMG Fascism is a category on Jeopardy 👀

Random older guy from the gym just stopped me in the parking lot to introduce himself & I realized I really need to nail down my opsec. I'm used to being friendly (unless someone is obviously super creepy); always good to know people. I'm not sure the old ways work in the current world. This sucks.

this was always coming. Elon wants contracts for the things he broke. and sometimes he just wants to take other people's contracts.

The core of these people’s belief system is that we need to kill off The Weak, and The Weak is anyone who ends up dying as a result of the dismantling of a functioning society. That’s called a tautology and it’s a very convincing argument if you’re stupid.

B of A: “.. the termination of #USAID will .. result in fewer crop purchases from US farmers. In 2024, USAID purchased $2 billion in U.S. grown corn, soybeans, wheat, vegetable oil, and peas from farmers, representing 1-2% of annual exports ..”

Death is not the only outcome that matters when it comes to infectious disease. In the TX measles outbreak, 16 people have been hospitalized so far, which can be traumatizing for kids and financially destructive for their parents. Measles can also cause a variety of adverse outcomes such as…

Just going to leave this here should it become useful to anyone…

alright, we're gonna kick this series off with a fucking bang. my first story in the DOGE IS FOUR LETTERS series comes from nate brought, director of the executive secretariat at the national institutes of health, and you're going to want to hear what he has to say.
