Here are the states proposing anti-book ban bills in 2025 so far. These are where you need to direct phone calls and letters–and there are a lot of unexpected states included. That, plus this week's extensive book censorship news: bookriot.com/anti-book-ba...

Among those Trump and Musk fired at the FAA: - Lawyers who help keep drunk or reckless pilots out of the skies - Air traffic control support staff - Employees who track potential new flying hazards like cranes - Staffers who medically clear pilots to fly www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

I am begging the media to put the focus on what was cut, and what the effects of those cuts are likely to be, rather than some nebulous topline number that implies to people that they’re actually doing what they say they are their “savings” will cost us far more than this, in money and terror

Hey so help us raise some money for trans kids! There's a lot of awesome stuff in this auction, including 4 mini-quilt trans pride flags that @thescatto.bsky.social made! Links in thread below. #ofmdcraftfair

This is an incredibly warped perspective—like saying Dr Mengele is the only bright spot in your regretted vote for the Nazi government, to my ears—and I have a hard time thinking it has broader implications for politics.

If you need something that is a *little* less angering today–and we do indeed talk about censorship, so know that–I've got an interview with THE Gayle Forman today at Hey YA. This conversation was so enjoyable. bookriot.com/listen/an-in...

Would you look at these people?! We're running an online "one-weekend MFA" for writing MG and YA novels, 6/14-15, with four lectures, an opportunity for individual feedback if you register early, and happy hour conversations at the end of each day.

Truly what the fuck

"The order will lead to 25,000 minors losing the legal representation they now have, as well as about 100,000 missing out on programs designed to educate them about their rights." They've stripped legal rep from immigrant children via a stop-work order to @acaciajustice.bsky.social. Call your reps.

This is fucking fire but also, amazingly, the judge is doing her damned best to establishing on the record that they don’t have a rational basis for their actions.

One of my biggest tips to people dealing with insurance issues! Also, calling the constituent services people at your legislators' offices (even if they are terrible, they can and usually will help with these things!). And ccing all those folks can help when you send a written appeal to a denial.

“There are currently four people remaining over there to do the work of 15 people. The danger to the national airspace can’t be understated." "This is a very real threat to the American flying public.” EXCLUSIVE ⤵️

Same thing I noted with FAA. This is the goal. They'll cite decreased visitors as justification to drill, develop, lease out and destroy the parks. It's all in P2025.

Some good news! USDA has (finally) approved a bird flu vaccine for poultry flocks. www.science.org/content/arti...

This is a good thread - this is one of the things I most enjoy about the research phase of a story, bc you'll go looking for a piece of info and end up going down 30 different rabbit holes in the process and eventually surface w a ton of fascinating info you wouldn't have thought to seek out

I’m not sure the rest of the country fully grasps the panic and anger building in DC, MD, and VA. The entire economy of this area is about to collapse. Paychecks are stopping. Careers are ruined. Taxes are about to plummet. Yet no one seems able to stop this madness.

It is the tiniest drop in the bucket in a world full of disaster but man does it feel cruel to finally be publishing a book I first queried 15 years ago only to not be able to work up an iota of energy or brainspace to promoting it. I thought I'd cry when I finally held it. But I'm so dead inside.
