In case anyone is wondering, it is a really bad idea to keep dog leads on the stairs

Attempting to make small talk at the shop. Asked about whether I had watched The Traitors, tried to reply "I'm not really a TV person" What i actually said: "I'm not really a person"

Lifehack: set dishwasher on a 30 min cycle when conditioner needs to be left on 30 min so when it beeps it is rinse time and your dishes are clean.

#academics What can institutions do to protect themselves and their reputation in the event someone gains social media and eventually mainstream notoriety claiming to have qualifications at their university that they do not actually hold?

I am working on an article and would ideally like to get a quote from a/some #neuroscientist (s), the subject is mostly to do with neurotransmitters. As bluesky has a thriving science and academic community I thought it might be good to ask here!

Finally making the move to get rid of my TV licence given that I never use any of the services it actually pays for and the only reason I continue to pay is the threat of legal punishment because they assume you are guilty by default. Is quite literally a protection racket.

I spent how many minutes of 2024 listening to @podsaveamerica.crooked.com? I am not even in the US?!

Because of How the Universe Works and Hakeem Oluseyi, every time Milkdromeda is being discussed in my head it is called Hakeem. Iykyk

We are all imperfect humans. @aoc.bsky.social is a better imperfect human than most. Reject her at your peril.

Yo, @privateeyenews.bsky.social going to need you to come up with a digital edition soon. I buy my dad a sub every year. He is now in his 70s and has glaucoma and parkisons, a print copy is rapidly becoming about as useful as a chocolate teapot. #accessibility

I finally finished The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt and I just don't know how I feel about that ending.

The best snoot in the world. #dogs are the best people.

Are online book clubs and thing? I really want to join a book club.

Adding candlelit evening by the fire to the list of things that sound lovely but actually aren't that great. #poweroutage

These government storm alerts are useless. They keep coming through really noisy but you can't make the noise stop without closing it and once you close it, it's gone...

Ran into my neighbour in the post office and we had a little hi hello interaction. Just got home and realised I enquired after how his dog was but not his wife, and now I feel like a terrible human.

Did i just demonstrate the dog's new bed to him by curling up on it? Yes. Yes I did. Franz seemed nonplussed and gave me a cursory sniff and lick before going to lie at the bottom of the stairs

In the UK, until the rise of e-commerce and adopting American consumerism habits, Black Friday used to be the last Friday before Christmas day when the most people were killed or hurt on the roads due to a combination of extra traffic and people having a sneaky drink or 10 after work then driving

Having one of those days where studying is really hard because every time I settle in my body decides I need to pee. It's sabotage frankly.

I need to go out and get firewood. I pretty much only use my burner in emergencies, but sod's law dictates if I haven't got any in we will have a power cut or somesuch immediately

Opinion: "Item unavailable" on grocery orders is worse than substitutions. Bonkers swaps- "you wanted rhubarb we sent you rhubarb scented antibacterial spray" - at least give you a laugh. "That loaf is unavailable and there is no other bread in the whole shop" is a lie, and we know it.

It's bedtime, so the Admiral Franz von Woofington has decreed it is the perfect time for some stamps stamps and huffy huffs. His demands are unknown.

I have never liked dipping biscuits in tea. I am a failure as a British person. I just don't get it? Why would I want a wet biscuit?

Do we think this one can be saved?

I really need to make some friends. My life is a bit like an Age UK advert but with better skincare.

THIS IS NOT HOW TRIG RULES WORK

I am absolutely sure textbook proofreaders are paid an hourly rate up to a cap and work through the book in order and just run out of budget at about 80% done because every A Level/AP textbook just nosedives at about that point. It is crippling for independent learners

Back to my familiar reprise: why are textbooks from publishers like Oxford University Press (and this is the 10th edition) printed containing ridiculous errors? Assessment chapter solutions just decided to stop bothering to multiple mass by g in calculations for moments... this is basic stuff guys.

On the subject of charity: having a clearout and I have far far too many sweaters. Trying to find ideally a shelter of some kind to donate them to cos warm clothes could help someone. Am I a terrible person for not wanting to give them to one attached to a church or the Samaritans?
