Also, someone complimented me on my AEW hoodie and we struck up a conversation — it turned out to be someone whose work I’ve read and admired for some time. Pro wrestling, the great unifier.

Berlinale has been something of a mixed bag for me this year, but one of the standouts has been Richard Linklater’s BLUE MOON. It’s dialogue-heavy, set mostly in a single location, and features a stellar Ethan Hawke performance. In short, 100% my jam. lamplightreview.com/blue-moon-mo...

This is why you fight these cowards. The moment you stand up to them, they crumble. Homan has nothing. The Fourth Amendment is clear and I am well within my duties to educate people of their rights. He can threaten me with jail and call names all he wants. He’s got nothing else.

I really, really loved MICKEY 17. Messy, deeply weird, and consistently hilarious, it’s another banger from Bong Joon-ho with both Pattinson and Ruffalo swinging for the fences and hitting multiple home runs. I absolutely can’t wait to see it again. lamplightreview.com/mickey-17-re...

World is currently a shitshow, but I’m gonna tune it out for the next couple of hours to check out MICKEY 17 at Berlinale. In Bong we trust.

looking forward to the many press conferences during the next pandemic where we’ll be forced to listen to someone who sounds like pennies in a garbage disposal and looks like fried chicken skin telling us how to stay healthy

I’m in agreement with my buddy @spoonaz.bsky.social (and just about everyone else) regarding CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD. The film falls into an all-too-familiar MCU trap, often feeling more like a contractual obligation than a fully realized vision. lamplightreview.com/captain-amer...

Ford is smashing and Mackie is a great Cap, but this middle-tier MCU installment is too all over the place. #CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld lamplightreview.com/movie-review...

Mitch McConnell could have retired years ago, in comfort and wealth but he's still crawling along the floor of congress because it's that important to him that he make sure not a single person receive even a scrap of help for anything. He will die trying to snatch bread from a hungry child.

Hey, could we not jeopardize Sundance’s virtual platform for lo-res rips? Some of us want to support new filmmakers, and those filmmakers would like to sell their movie to a distributor so that even more audiences can see their hard work. Don’t ruin the last virtual platform for a major festival.

This kind of thing makes me unreasonably angry. I hope those social media likes people received after posting pirated clips were worth the consequences, which will likely be the end of online festival screenings from Sundance. Absolute idiots.

I blame entitled, stupid AF stans for ruining our opportunities to see SELENA Y LOS DINOS and TWINLESS during the virtual portion of the Sundance Film Festival. It really sucks that y’all can’t do the bare minimum, which is not filming the screen & posting clips for likes.

Your orange. My Orange. #AEW

Yeah, you might want to bookmark this one.

Rewatched ANORA last night with my wife and another couple, none of whom had seen it yet. Everyone had a great time, and I think I loved the film even more the second time around. Mikey Madison and Yura Borisov deserve all of the accolades.

If your Christianity causes you to be offended by someone asking the most powerful person in the country to be merciful towards the powerless, then you have profoundly misunderstood the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Excellent thread here.

Today I saw an upcoming film wherein a former NFL superstar (with admittedly decent comedic chops) is not only billed in the credits with the nickname “Beast Mode,” but he also utters this phrase in the film itself.

Find joy where you can, show support for people on the margins where you can, and let’s help each other through, that is what I am saying.

Got this message today from a friend I’ve known for more than 20 years. While I recognize how fortunate I am that my family and I no longer reside in the US, there are still numerous people I care about who will be adversely affected by what happens next, and that makes me so fucking sad.

So long, David Lynch. A truly unique talent, the likes of which we may never seen again. What a loss.

Being a “conservative intellectual” must rule so much. There’s this giant mass of babies that are scared of cities, mad at cartoons, and intimidated by women, and your job is to convince them having those feelings makes them brave warriors for western civilization

Guess I should get around to sharing my Top 10 from 2024 (or Top 12, since the mobile Letterboxd app displays rows of 4).

Kenny fuckin’ Omega. Holy shit.

I was convinced I had seen DEN OF THIEVES before, so was a bit puzzled when I put it on tonight and none of it seemed familiar. Turns out I had it confused with a completely different heist movie — this one was much better, although the ending is a blatant cut-and-paste of an even better film.

Starting off 2025 with JOHN WICK. Wife has never seen it, and she’s on a Keanu kick right now after playing through CYBERPUNK 2077. Looking forward to revisiting this franchise over the next few days.

Speaking of Indy: INDIANA JONES AND THE GREAT CIRCLE is shaping up to be one of the best licensed video games of all time. Maybe even THE best. Rumor has it Disney is happy with the results and wants more of these, to which I say “yes, please” as long as they can maintain the quality.

Rewatched TEMPLE OF DOOM last night for the first time in ages. I had forgotten how unpleasant that film can be, for a variety of reasons. Great action set pieces, of course, but there’s so much connective tissue that I don’t care for. Definitely the worst of the original Indy trilogy.

Wish I had stumbled upon this sooner. Would’ve been much better than the generic Yule log video we put on the TV before opening presents this morning. Hangman is definitely welcome in our household.

Had a lot of fun revisiting RARE EXPORTS tonight for the first time since its initial release. Not sure my wife shares the sentiment, unfortunately. Maybe we should’ve gone with SCROOGED instead.

Early Christmas gift for our family: several of the storage units in the basement of our building were broken into, including ours. Not sure yet how much was taken — they damaged the door in such a way that we can’t open it fully to get into the unit — but they definitely got some important items.

I’ve never been a huge fan of Superman, but I’ll be damned if this trailer didn’t resonate with me in a big way. James Gunn could be on track to deliver something really special here.

New York Rep. Pat Ryan, who easily held his Hudson Valley swing seat last month, spoke for AOC in the Dem conference meeting yesterday. Asked him what he said and he just sent me the speech - sharing in case it's interesting
