I spent 4 years reliving The Great Migration, from 1919 to 1969, while #writing my book. My grandparents told me how factory wages pulled folks northward, but never spoke of the widespread bloodshed of The Red Summer that pushed them out of the South. I wish I had those stories to guide me today.

The word "problematic" makes me itch. It insists that the "problem" is inherent to the person, action or thing. I say "This is a problem for me," or "I believe this will cause problems for X." Maybe people think it sounds smart. To me, it sounds cowardly, and too passive to say what it means.
