The unfortunate, inescapable truth is that the world is full of horror. But horror cinema has also always been full of the world. h

If you’re into Lynch or just watching people lose it over perfecting their art, you’ll probably love “Accidental Stars.”

This is one of the few horror films to have scared me in eons.

I'm gonna keep reposting examples of people not taking shit because it's important for us to see that you can, simply, reject the shit. Say "Uh... no no no, we will not be tolerating that."

1. Did you know that Girl Scouts has, for a long time, accepted trans girls and nonbinary scouts? Trans kids are under attack. Every year, I make a thread of trans and nonbinary girl scouts you can get your cookies from. Lets get our cookies from them this year in solidarity!

I think this film is worth watching if you’re interested in learning some history, but as a horror movie, it’s a no-go.

as a playwright, I feel a lot of big feelings about seeing organizations like the Playwrights Center and New Harmony - nonprofits which incubate, develop and support new plays and support living playwrights - bravely call out the NEA’s cowardice and defend diverse voices in the American theatre

“We’re not going anywhere. What’s more: we’re expanding.” Nearly a dozen of Minnesota’s foremost experts on gender-affirming care collaborated on this beautiful op-ed in today’s Strib. No paywall.

During the 1st Trump admin, people squeezed out some privileged mouth-farts about what great art we’d get out of it, because art thrives on rebellion or whatever. I always thought traumatizing a generation of artists would do the opposite. Watching that halftime show...it’s not just the trauma 🧵

About all this film truly has going for it are the visuals, though I feel as if there could have been something here if only “Temple” had, you know, a purpose, a script that knew where it was going, and an ending.

I may have been a little angry for my @dreadcentral.bsky.social article on the unseen (and unpaid) labor of Black female characters in horror and their usurped strength. Let your future characters rest I beg of you! www.dreadcentral.com/editorials/5...

Want to support indie film? Love clowns? (Or just enjoy being terrified of them?) @zammitmarc.bsky.social is currently crowdfunding for a horror/thriller clown movie called "Jitters." Check out the trailer here: www.indiegogo.com/projects/com...

‘The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any.’ Today marks the birthday of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker. Born February 9, 1944 in Eatonton, Georgia.

Like, this cult went through a whole hell of a lot of work to do a specific thing that probably could’ve been done in, like, twelve easier ways.

I dunno, I think this one could have been amazing with an all-female cast, but I suppose if the coroner had been a mother and daughter team working on Jane Doe, this would have been a shorter and different film entirely. cinemaschminema.substack.com/p/the-autops...

#BlackHistoryMonth PSA for we people of pallor:

Never a bad time to watch horror movies 🖤

Horror is a transgressive, punk rock genre that is at times VERY political. And a large component of our audience and community is very, very queer. You don't have to share our politics to enjoy horror, but you sure as shit should share the ideals that everyone has a right to exist if you make it.

Despite my confusion while watching, the film had a lot going on, so it never became boring. There’s romance! There’s singing about the joys of communism (that part was…interesting)! People get chased by monsters! An Elvis impersonator shows up! There’s a magical librarian! No dull moments here.

These poems were so, so good. "Doom boxes" was my favorite (because SAME), but "Spelling doesn't matter because words aren't real" is just so honest and kickass.

While “Sector 7” isn’t the best monster movie I’ve ever seen, it’s delightfully fun and a little silly. If you love seeing people fight off giant creatures, especially in limited space and with nowhere to go, this is definitely the film for you!

Ke Huy Quan's roles over the years 🎬 His next project is Love Hurts — in theaters February 7

hey psychopomp blog is back we want your death or fantasy focused articles got budget to acquire a few articles a month currently (buy our books!) read the guidelines + pitch at the link below (would *really* appreciate if you could share this paid writing opportunity).

One would think that killer pumpkins on a rampage would be a winner, but somehow, “Carved,” a Hulu film, does the impossible and makes a pumpkin on a murderous rampage boring. 😭

"Hellhole" is atmospheric as fuck and has a couple of genuinely creepy moments. It just doesn’t follow through entirely on its premise, leading to an ending that is a little more than lacking.

“Tarot” may just be another formulaic horror flick, but it isn’t the worst out there (even if it’s lacking in the gore area). If nothing else, “Tarot” is a good reminder not to fuck around with strangers’ belongings you found in their forbidden and bizarre basement.

“Time Trap” is a case of a movie having some really cool ideas but not quite delivering on them. However, if you enjoy sci-fi and don’t mind some obvious plot holes and a bunch of “No, but seriously, why are you doing this??” moments, you might like it.

RIP David Lynch. Filmmaker. Born Missoula, MT. Eagle Scout. variety.com/2025/film/ne...

While "Longlegs" isn't the scariest horror movie ever made, it's well worth a watch purely for the feeling it will leave you with, the feeling that says you should double-check that the shadow in the corner of your darkened room really is just a coat over the back of a chair and not anything other.

While a bit bloodier than “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” "Willy's Wonderland" is also incredibly dumb. There is no plot other than "Nic Cage murdering animatronics." And yet...sometimes, that's really all you need in life.

"House of Spoils" is a story of working against all odds to get what you want and one of rebirth and empowerment; the story just happens to involve a possible ghost witch and a mysterious garden as a framework for these things. cinemaschminema.substack.com/p/house-of-s...

What exactly is “The Wolf of Snow Hollow” about, and why is every character in it just the absolute worst? cinemaschminema.substack.com/p/the-wolf-o...

Why is anyone watching this film except to see the hot kid brutally murdering his enemies in increasingly gory and creative ways? cinemaschminema.substack.com/p/boy-kills-...
