This has been a fabulous introduction to the broad history of public media. A joy to watch colleagues @joshshepperd.bsky.social @lauragarbes.bsky.social Allison Perlman, hear the perspective of BPM ED Leslie Fields-Cruz, moderated by @mjanssen.bsky.social

Pastrami at Hershel’s in Reading Market

Looking forward to speaking on this panel Thursday with Leslie Fields-Cruz, Allison Perlman, @joshshepperd.bsky.social and @mjanssen.bsky.social. Glad for the opportunity to discuss the importance of an adequately funded public media system, and the importance of fighting for it especially now!

I’ll be hosting this conversation — hope you can join us!

Though I love New Orleans, I admit I wasn’t familiar with Pableaux Johnson until his passing. Making his red beans and rice recipe courtesy of Brad Thomas Parsons’ newsletter. I’ll drink some Old Grand-Dad Bonded in his honor. 🥃

Here’s hoping Jason Moran stays at the Kennedy Center long enough for this show I have tickets for. Yeesh.

Cocktails and banjo propaganda

@edharrington.bsky.social Hi Ed!

Many artists have changed the course of my life, but if my dad hadn’t inexplicably given me a copy of “Another Roadside Attraction” in my youth, I don’t know what I’d be today. RIP. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/09/o...

Where the hell is Lin-Manuel Miranda? Why isn’t he, in full costume, outside the Treasury Department, right now, RAPPING?!

Tonight's cocktail is again not much to look at but tasty. The Racketeer via @fredericyarm.bsky.social with mezcal, rye, Bénédictine, sweet vermouth, yellow Chartreuse and Peychaud's. Bénédictine really ties the room together.

Bad photo of tonight’s cocktail because I’m too lazy to take a good one. The drink is good though — a Devil’s Soul with rye, mezcal, Aperol, St. Germain, Averna, orange bitters and a flamed orange peel, from gaz regan’s cocktail app.
