US negotiations with Russia are likely not about peace or ending the war, & probably shouldn't be framed using those terms. Instead they appear to be focused on normalizing US-RU relations & US ceasing Ukraine support is part of the deal. Escalating US admin rhetoric makes sense in this context.

Seems like we can reasonably dismiss future analysis from those who claimed Trump admin was going to be tough on Putin and vigorously support Ukraine. Feel a little solid for Kellogg whose shuttling looks ever more pointless by the day. But maybe this is 7d chess.

Trusk admin impacts everywhere. The brand new state of the art National Bio & Agro Defense Facility BSL-4 facility for research on human, zoonotic, and foreign animal diseases (emphasis on plant/animal disease) in Kansas, was close to standing up operations but may now be pushed back by a year.

This notion of sending NATO military forces to Ukraine to act as peacekeepers in a post-settlement context is odd. 1) it will place NATO troops in direct conflict w. RU military (cos RU will def violate ceasefire). 2) RU is adamant on no NATO presence in Ukraine.

So, what is the situation for all of these government workers being fired in terms of unemployment payments? IIUC their form letters sometimes reference underperformance etc. Is this, or other fitting approaches enough to block unemployment money? Cos that would suck, a lot.

So, when we see various numbers bandied about for there being this or that many million federal employees, does that include the vast crowd of contractors? I’m guessing not, which kind of creates a false impression of the size of the federal government.
