Today in wildlife success stories Buffalo were once down to just a few dozen animals. The park service did a fantastic job and now we have a herd of about 6000. Likely one of the most iconic species, our own ignorance nearly wiped them out but today, thanks to the USNPS they're still here.

LOL @ "stunning". stunning to who, exactly?

“Don’t feed the trolls” also extends to bad opinion pieces in papers of record. They run them bc people react to them the most. If we stop linking to bad columns and instead post thinkers we find valuable (& generate convo around it), incentives change. It’s not easy and takes constant practice!

The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.

Reminder: Don’t take the rage bait. The MAGAts swarming Bluesky are desperate to create “content” by goading people here into furious responses that they can screen-cap and share on Twitter. Some of them earn money by doing this. Starve the beast. Block, block, block.

I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever. #books #reading #booksky #poetry

The H5N1 sequence found in the hospitalized teenager shows two important mutations that improve the virus's ability to bind to human α2,6 sialic acid receptors. This adaptation is crucial for the virus's potential to spread between humans. The virus is evolving. #H5N1

When all is said and done we’re going to realize just how fucking close this election really was. This is no landslide.

glad to be here!

I really don’t understand this whole ‘stay on Twitter and fight’ thing. You’re jousting with bots and reply guys and wading through ads it’s not Waterloo.

I would love to tell you about the times vaccines prevented me from getting sick, but every time it happens, I don’t notice. I just keep feeling well. Neither do you. Public health, when it’s working, is invisible.

I still can't believe this guy might be the next HHS Secretary!

Put video game music in symphony halls. DONT tell them it’s from a video game. Watch how they lose their minds.

Hope everyone has a good weekend! Here's a sleepy boy to enjoy.

I have faced fascism before, in this very country. I was one of 120,000 Japanese Americans summarily rounded up and expelled from our homes at gunpoint, all for the crime of looking like the people who bombed Pearl Harbor. I spent my childhood behind barbed wire. My parents lost everything. 1/

I don't want to sound alarmist or anything, but I'm not sure it's a good idea to skip FBI background checks and bury congressional ethics reports about nominees to the most important posts in the federal government.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is not a “skeptic” of vaccines. He has said there are no safe or effective vaccines. He is a foe of vaccines.

Hmmm... a vaccine denier and conspiracy theory believer for head of US health department, and a guy once embroiled in a sex trafficking investigation for the country's top attorney spot? Sounds about right.

Yes, we wouldn’t want to set a “terrible precedent” of knowing whether the nation’s top law enforcement official had sex with a minor.

Sorry I didn't respond to your text, I’ve been busy ignoring reality to keep myself from going insane
