This is not a good combination of trending topics 😬

"CDC Layoffs" and "Texas Outbreak" are trending next to each other 👍

they got rid of DEI and the right wing tech elites immediately started hiring based on experience oh no wait lol

I kid you not, @itch.io has been taken down by Funko of "Funko Pop" because they use some trash "AI Powered" Brand Protection Software called Brand Shield that created some bogus Phishing report to our registrar, iwantmyname, who ignored our response and just disabled the domain

the SPLC has outed the Babylon Bee's very small number of writers www.splcenter.org/hatewatch/20...

these internet issues today man 🙃 didn't expect the problems on our highest traffic day ever to have nothing to do with our code but rather: - cut fiber cable by one of our ISP - networking issues from our bare metal provider - cloudflare DNS issues

FIPS 140 is truly incredible. SP 800-56A sort of reluctantly admits that if you just generated an ephemeral ECDH key pair, you can assume that the public key matches the private key. No shit. Then the IG swoops in and says: no! You need to check! How, you ask?

Inregret to inform you that I willed this into existence years ago.

performance pro tip. if some loading interaction is slow, try removing the spinner. sometimes a spinner makes things slower. i don’t mean just perception-wise. spinners can actually eat CPU

Sundar Pichai, Google earnings call blog.google/inside-googl... Firstly, if this is literally true then they’re completely fucking cooked. Secondly, if it isn’t true, what version of it is? What behaviours are reaching Pichai as over a quarter of new code coming from code tools?

what the fuck is going on

I accidentally clicked "Show more like this" on a post that I am neutral towards and my account is tainted forever and I need to delete it

uh oh

@bluebelleveexe.bsky.social Hiiii. I think your Bsky links on Twitch and YouTube may not be correct? They go to "bluebelleve", with no "exe", which doesn't exist. Unless the links are correct and YOU are the impostor. D: Have a nice day. Passing out from social awkwardness now. 👍

"Part of our plan includes building payment services for people to support their favorite creators and projects." So are they going with cryptocurrency, Puritanical credit card company moderation, or what?

Children today are under constant surveillance as society seeks to kill them on a daily basis through uncontrolled plagues, increasingly disastrous weather, and transphobia. New York Times: "There is no hotter topic among parents today than the effects of technology on adolescent mental health."

Really important story here. Also worth noting that Google is funding the JK Rowling backed anti-trans hate group LGB Alliance in the UK.

New from me: Google has been giving hundreds of thousands of free ad credits to the anti LGBT orgs the Alliance Defending Freedom, Family Research Council, and Do No Harm. In direct violation of their own ad policies against "anti sentiment" against LGBT people. www.dailydot.com/debug/google...

hi new Bluesky people! remember that most of us are connecting over Telnet because having a PDP-11 at home is prohibitively expensive (and takes up too much space!) reminder you can connect over at bsky.tel, have fun!

My co-worker spent hours trying to track down a book that a patron had asked about, going through all our interlibrary loan resources. Nothing. Turns out the patron had asked ChatGPT for book recs and it made up some titles and summaries. The book did not exist.

even if you’re ardently pro-nuclear, SMRs are just a failure purely on the economics and always have been. And that’s before wind/solar/battery made them just obsolete. So SMRs are the perfect tech when you want an excuse not to do anything useful. pivot-to-ai.com/2024/10/17/g...

I drew my oc on a 1990's Macintosh in the Macintosh Paint program (1987 ver) with a mouse!

Thank God VTubers and artists are finally moving away from Twitter (this time, maybe). I've missed them.
