The library is the only place that Americans experience the fullness of what it means to remove goods from the market. It pings our consciousness. Hey we could love differently!

this is a staggering amount of money to build camps—suggesting that building & running a gulag will be the primary function of the otherwise gutted Trump-state in last fiscal yr: "D.H.S. allocated about $3.4 billion for the entire custody operation overseen by ICE" www.nytimes.com/2025/04/07/u...

That same white couple again. Native children are not dolls. They should be with family, with their people. They deserve to grow up with their culture. Our Elders were punished as kids for being Native, and generations after have been affected too. This is a threat of even more cultural genocide.

These are their names. You may not agree with every action these people have ever made. But please recognize that this is ideological persecution, likely aided by digital surveillance evidence, and with no due process. 1/ Mahmoud Khalil (Columbia) (still detained) www.aclu.org/.../a-letter....

Today I became Dr. Tanner after I passed my dissertation defense! I’m very grateful for everyone who helped me get to this moment; it’s been a community effort.

It is 2025. Please, male historians, stop referring to women (and only women, curiously 🙄) as “females” in your published, peer reviewed writing. We’re not talking about live stock. Thanks.

On this Trans Day of Visibility, we remind folks that allyship is not an identity– it's a practice. For ALL of us to live in a world we deserve and dream of, we must commit to taking action daily! #TransDayOfVisibility

Yesterday, the U of Minnesota deleted the American Indian Studies’ statement on Palestine. (Also deleted was a story about Leonard Peltier’s return home and five other dept statements on Palestine.) Our expertise matters if we don’t oppose genocide. web.archive.org/web/20250322...

i think these people are in the grip of a genuine delusion www.nbcchicago.com/news/busines...

I may be one of the few who regularly roots against their alma mater during March Madness when they’re playing. Roll Tide 😏

columbia, brown, georgetown, cornell and now tufts — they’re taking our students, our colleagues, our kin https://www.boston25news.com/news/local/international-student-tufts-university-reportedly-taken-into-federal-custody/2VK55QMAOZFIDBR2A6XNKC5XOU/?outputType=amp

I mean, I’m not sure this will go the way they think it’s going to, tbh 😹

My sympathies to everyone who formatted a dissertation on a typewriter. Formatting a dissertation on a computer that’s 7 years old and force quits Microsoft Word at least once per day is enough to make me lose my mind 🤪

For folks who don’t know, ethnic studies programs like African American/Africana Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicano Studies and the like come directly from civil right era campus activism. Attempts to disempower such programs should be framed as attacks on civil rights same as much else rn.

I’m quoted in this NPR article trying to communicate the devastation from the loss of the dedicated staff at NCES who made sure critical data was collected to ensure low income and rural schools receive the formula funds they need to serve their students. www.npr.org/2025/03/21/n...

What becomes of the University if it succumbs to the demands of a political party or leader and cedes its rights of free speech, free expression, and free inquiry? … What becomes of our students if they are only permitted to think, speak, and be in ways that follow the political winds? FAFO

Me: I just finished the last chapter of my dissertation! My 10 year old: okay, but dont books have epilogues and acknowledgements? All my books have those. Me: yeah… you’re right. I guess I have a bit more to do. Kid advisor is looking out! 🫡 😂

Would be amazing if the Eccles and every other donor in perpetuity made their gifts contingent on the legislature not passing trash bills.

To my colleagues at Columbia: if you were wondering where the rubber hits the road, this is where the rubber hits the road. I beseech you not to act like this is business as usual or it will indeed become business as usual.

They're destroying civil rights history because they want to repeal the Civil Rights Act www.alreporter.com/2025/03/06/h...

Trump is going for a Termination era 2.0.

The U.S. government has put up a submission form for reporting schools who teach kids about “DEI.” It accepts file uploads. Internet, you know what to do enddei.ed.gov

This portal weaponizes both public dollars and a federal office to attack educators and children. We must see this for what it is—state sanctioned violence to repress the plurality of human existence, and to prevent human flourishing.
