#DidYouKnow that snapping #turtles are a species at risk in #NovaScotia? Snapping turtles face threats from nest failures (which are increased by turtles nesting in highly disturbed environments like road edges and quarries), illegal harvest, and road mortality.

February 17th is Heritage Day in #NovaScotia. This year, we honour Mi’kmaq activist Nora Bernard. Learn more about her story : heritageday.novascotia.ca On Heritage Day you can visit the Museum of Natural History, Museum of Industry, and Maritime Museum of the Atlantic for free.

Fall deep, deep, (like really deep), in love this #ValentinesDay! New visiting exhibit Monsters of the Abyss opens on Friday, February 14th, 2025 at your #Museum.

Why did the blue #lobster turn red? It wasn't a riddle for the #Museum, but a reality! On October 31st, we found our blue lobster had molted and was now red (with some blue accents). This change is likely due to a change in her diet. Will she change again? We'll have to wait and see!

#DidYouKnow that #NovaScotia is home to five species of #snake? These slithery friends add to the ecosystem by acting as predators to earth worms, slugs, fish, frogs, salamanders, and more. In return, snakes are prey for birds, raccoons, and foxes.

This blue lobster is about one in two million, and displays the beautiful blue colouring due to a genetic mutation. This mutation suppresses other colours (red, yellow, green). #NovaScotiaLobster

Meet the salamanders! Nova Scotia is home to five species of these photogenic creatures. Pictured are the aptly named yellow-spotted and blue-spotted salamanders. As you can see, they like to stick together. naturalhistory.novascotia.ca/resources/re...
