Update: after 4 days, SMPD finally took my report, and say they’re likely to be pressing charges and should be able to get me his identity that way. I still want to figure this out so our ordinance can be helpful when people can’t get this info through PD (that’s kind of the point of the ordinance).

Yo internet, who knows how to find the identity of a CA driver using their plate w/o paying a fortune? This guy assaulted me and, in order to take him to small court w our local ordinance, I’m supposed to provide his info, which PD won’t give me because they now have a criminal offense on him. 👌💀

well it has certainly been an amusing prank to let the worst people alive take over the american government for a few weeks, but I think it's probably gone on long enough

Yo!

My thoughts exactly.

RIP Shoup Dogg. May your next stop be free of off-street minimums.

I'm deeply saddened to share that Donald Shoup passed away last night. He was the ideal academic—curious, methodical, and concerned with turning ideas into real-world change. TAing his parking course these past few years has one of the greatest honors of my life. Rest in peace, Shoup Dogg.

The Department of City Planning has released guidelines which departments will use as the bare minimum they have to do to implement HLA We see a few issues. For example, shared bike/bus lanes are NOT acceptable in place of Class II bike lanes Learn more & take action: mailchi.mp/streetsforal...

Ride alert! Meeting at the SMC E line station for a chill loop around SM. All ages, all bikes, all abilities. And some of us might just end up at Brew Works after the ride.

Why are we asking our children to "share the road" with oversized vehicles? Without adequate infrastructure, the freedom of a person to drive these vehicles conflicts with the freedom of children to move around neighborhoods and cities safely.

Join us Wednesday, February 12th from 5-6pm for our next happy hour! We’ll be sitting down with newly-elected Culver City Councilmember and former SFA Steering Committee Member @bubbathefish.bsky.social Bring your best transportation questions and RSVP here: us06web.zoom.us/meeting/regi...

Pop up tomorrow at Douglas Park, 10am-12pm for the Santa Monica Blvd safety study. Pull up and ask for real good stuff… bus lanes… *cough cough*.

There's also nothing wrong with "politicizing a tragedy" as politics is how we change policies to prevent tragedies.

Hey Santa Monica people, remember how we got a progressive super majority elected? Yeah, well, they’re doing good stuff, and we should let them know we support it, so they don’t just get blasted by NIMBYs 🙃

New monologue on YouTube: Who’s Really to Blame for the LA Fires youtu.be/QwMovDeFBw8

Today marks the 100th anniversary of a L.A. traffic ordinance that reshaped public space in the city and across the U.S. I spoke with historian Peter Norton (@norton.bsky.social) about how the auto industry helped limit pedestrian access to streets, paving the fast, deadly roads we navigate today.

10/10 would recommend.

Since they are only allowed on truck routes here, can we also seize them when they’re on other routes? Thanks in advance.

Wildfire hot take: need more public education about how wildfires burn and grow. I saw many people evacuate with miles of urban buffer with no dried out vegetation out of fear that the fires would reach their home.

If you’re 50+ years old and ride a bike, take this survey! If you’re not, share it with people you know. survey.alchemer.com/s3/7706636/5...

Days after a driver speeded away after killing an elderly woman in a crosswalk, SMPD shares a PSA about “shared responsibility” telling peds to “use designated crosswalks”. They can’t be serious. www.instagram.com/reel/DEVK17k...

The way passengers get dropped into car traffic because we’ve decided that cars blocking the bus stop & bike lane all day long every weekend here is fine is… very North American…

Santa Monica now has a very badass 6-1 council majority. It’s also losing its very awesome city manager. Pls send recs for YIMBY friendly city managers who’d be a good fit for this city 😭 Personal requirement: if they don’t use active mobility or public transit to get to work, don’t send them my way

“I love my bike because I get to ride the bike bus with it” is the quote of the day. Shoutout to the kiddos who weren’t intimidated by a cold (yes, SoCal cold) hazy morning and cleared the haze with their smiles.

The judge who let this happen said he didn’t believe induced demand was a thing, so there’s that.

Community bike rides are one of the best ways to meet awesome people, have fun, and enjoy your city. I doubt you can change my mind.

This is what commuting at rush hour could look like, if we stopped catering to ignorance and over-convenience.

Hi planners & engineers, please read these 367 pages of brand new research that contain some very relevant information about how you should or shouldn’t design intersections. Thanks. (This isn’t anti separated bike lane. It’s PRO protected intersections). nap.nationalacademies.org/cart/downloa...

We’re doing a community bike ride this Sunday and you should join us!

There's a lot to like about safe streets/housing/LGBTQ+ advocate Bubba Fish who Culver City voters just elected to city council la.streetsblog.org/2024/11/22/i...

We need great advocates to join the state's Equity Advisory Committee for transportation. Please consider applying. catc.ca.gov/programs/int...

Just build a bunch of housing around the station and we’re set 😎😍

“We won’t go after you if you don’t give 3ft to a cyclist when passing them with your car, but we’ll definitely go after a fruit vendor if they’re 3ft too far from the bike path. Now pls keep giving us 1/3 of the city’s budget, and more.”
