A call for modernist-inspired scholars, makers, and activists! Come join us for MSA's 2025 Boston conference this fall.

The MSA and ACLA are co-sponsoring a panel for MLA 2026: Routes, Resemblances, and Correspondence in Présence Africaine. This panel will facilitate new questions about the journal Présence Africaine. 1/

Another MSA-sponsored CFP for MLA: calling all modernists AND early modernists for Doing Modernism with the Early Moderns / Doing Early Modernism with the Modernists. Submit abstract by March 15 to Kate Schnur: Kate.Schnur (at) qc.cuny.edu 1/

For our throwback for our anniversary, this month, we are spotlighting Woolf and the Art of Exploration, published back in June 2005! We have continued to embrace our roots with continued publications of Woolf related content, even now!

Good advice from @jessmasters.bsky.social

This looks amazing and like necessary reading, now more than ever.

This is so exciting! Check out this new feature in Feminist Modernist Studies-- and submit your ideas!

This sounds so timely for modernists and everyone else too!

📣 [CFP Mina Loy] @yasnabozhkova.bsky.social and I are looking forward to reading your proposals for our special issue of Feminist Modernist Studies. There's still time to send us something! ✨ @modernistudies.bsky.social – @moderniststudies.bsky.social think.taylorandfrancis.com/special_issu...

Submit to this panel so you can also quote @rcolesworthy.bsky.social at the @modernlanguage.bsky.social!

Consider submitting your ideas to an MLA 2026 roundtable on academic and modernist generosities! We're looking for a range of 5-7min papers interrogating ideas of modernism and gifts, pedagogy and (free) labor, the generosity of text, and if/how generosity can become a politics of resistance.

The MSA has a sponsored roundtable for MLA 2026! Generous Modernism. "Generosity" in academia that interrogate: how generosity fosters support and exploitation, the exercise or denial of generosity in modernist texts/criticism, generosity as method, and generosity in resistance or pedagogy. 1/

It’s that time of year again, folks!!!! It’s exciting!!! 📚🔎✨ @tinahodgkinson.bsky.social @jcbernthal.com @stefanoserafini.bsky.social @moderniststudies.bsky.social @modernistudies.bsky.social @greenbowlerhat.bsky.social @verbivorial.bsky.social @markaldridge.info @agathafestival.bsky.social

MIETTE AND EMILY BLOOM ARE CITED which means that this will be excellent; very scholarly people in charge, very mindful. 🤩😉👇 @moderniststudies.bsky.social @modernistudies.bsky.social @modernism-asia.bsky.social

Hello, Bluesky! We have a call for chapter abstracts for Caring Modernists: Locating Care in Modernist Production and Practice. This edited volume will explore care in modernist culture, broadly defined. Submit a 250-word abstract & 100-word bio to [email protected] by March 14, 2025 #CFP

A CFP for a collection on care in modernism! See below for more details.

Anyone know the #JamesJoyce #Ulysses edition here?

Is there a name for this style of midcentury commercial illustration? Darker palette, modest abstraction, vertical lines of brushwork (?) that suggest curtains or rain or even dripping wax, depending on setting. It shows up in magazines & on album covers, paintings of rainy urban nights. I love it.

Today is the release day for my Audible Original, "James Baldwin: The Man and His Work"! It was a labor of love, and I hope you enjoy it. www.audible.com/pd/James-Bal...

I'm co-organising a conference on the modernist long poem, partly for the centenary of Richard Aldington's A Fool i' the Forest. Please consider submitting! nclsn.wordpress.com/2025/02/04/c... @modernistudies.bsky.social @moderniststudies.bsky.social @mmodernity.bsky.social @fwwsoc.bsky.social

One more note about this call for an MSA ombudsperson: nominees can also be in academic-adjacent positions or former academics too. As long as they're familiar with academic conferences and able to attend the conference, they would be a viable candidate. Please DM with any questions.

Grinning ear to ear to see the brilliant Kylie Horan's essay about Mrs Dalloway and Italy published yesterday on Woolf's birthday! Missing the other place to brag for her to the heavens! Yay Kylie! #Modernism @moderniststudies.bsky.social @modernistudies.bsky.social @woolfstudiesannual.bsky.social

ICYMI, here is our first article on Print Plus of the year: Jack Dudley on Jean Rhys, resistance, and stained glass: modernismmodernity.org/articles/dud...

The MSA is seeking nominations for its inaugural ombudsperson. The person doesn't have to be an MSA member, as long as they're familiar with academic organizations like the MSA. www.moderniststudies.org/about/ombuds/

I wrote this short piece a few years ago on Anthropocene fires, art’s value, & what modernity’s artifacts allow us to see and not see about the climate crisis. Our disasters are always unique, always reruns.

#academicsky I'm headed to NOLA tomorrow for #mla2025. Chairing a panel on the Harlem issue of the Survey Graphic for @moderniststudies.bsky.social on Saturday. What should I do before then? Are you presenting? Restaurant, bookstore, or café recs?

Great to see our very own Bloomsbury literary studies account up on Bluesky! Drop us a follow on @bloomsburylit.bsky.social

We're pleased to announce a deadline extension for the 'Modernism and Data' Special Issue! The new deadline is January 20th. See below for the CFP: modernistreviewcouk.wordpress.com/2024/09/27/m...

What a great idea! And then consider writing a review for @mmodernity.bsky.social

Zora Neale Hurston was born on this day, January 7, 1891. She died penniless on January 28, 1960 and was buried in an unmarked grave. This passage, from her famed 1937 novel, *Their Eyes Were watching God,* seems especially pertinent at this moment. 1/

We are really excited to announce that Carnegie Mellon University Press is holding two concurrent literary contests in 2025: a Literary Translation Contest and a New Play Contest. Both will be accepting submissions from January 21 to February 28, 2025. Find out more: www.cmu.edu/universitypr...

Excellent idea for an MSA panel in Boston this fall!

The start of the new year seems an appropriate time to circulate a reminder about our new memory studies series, 'Critical Memory Studies', now soliciting proposals. Please feel free to share and to put any interested parties in touch. Thanks in advance!
