he thinks he’s king. he issues executive orders (royal decrees) and the entire society is expected to obey

This was the moment, just over a month ago, when the ADL could've put an end to Republicans doing Nazi salutes. They didn't. They chose instead to provide cover by calling it "an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm." Now the sieg heil salute has been normalized. The ADL literally had ONE JOB.

Basically, sigh

Women couldn’t have their own credit until 1974. Marital rape became illegal nationwide in 1994. We are ONE generation into women having a CHANCE at life & it’s proved so intolerable America would rather end itself than allow such a thing to continue.

I love this

🚨 SCOOP: DOGE is seeking personal taxpayer data at IRS, sources tell me. 🚨 Trump admin is pushing IRS to agree to an MOU that would give DOGE access to granular data on every taxpayer, business and nonprofit in the country.

This is all a good reminder that, “no help, no votes until the criminal conduct stops” is neither a big ask nor a politically perilous one.

Here's a list of DOGE staff, assembled and annotated by my colleagues at BI. Whatever you do, please don't share it. www.businessinsider.com/doge-staff-l...

US aid freeze claims first victims as oxygen supplies cut off Seventy-one-year-old woman dies after being sent home from USAID funded hospital. Others die after hospitals close in refugee camps www.telegraph.co.uk/global-healt...

Ok, this is great! In my calls, I've been asking if/why they approve of the hiring (rehiring) of Nazi racists on the DOGE team, so I'm going to find a way to add that in

When protestors uttered the slogan “defund the police” the national media had a massive freak out. But now that Trump wants to actually gut the FBI and (it would seem) illegally fire 1000s of people who work there, the same media sees it as a curiosity, a dull bureaucratic matter.

Affirmatively stating that you are a racist is no longer a fireable offense. But supporting workplace diversity is.

saw this circulating on Instagram the other day and I can’t stop thinking about it. “Who cares anymore what particular knot they used in the binding?” is such a perfectly expressed repudiation of the “economic anxiety” framing

We need an audit the current code base and all development pipelines. It takes seconds to inject nefarious code. This dude had days, apparently.

It’s only February, but this may be the winning post of 2025.

I can. In fact, the Canadian version is so great, I can't think of an American equivalent. 🧵

I don't know if anyone caught it during the Treasury rally today, but. Rep. McIver straight-up said that her Republican colleagues are leaving their phones off the hook because they don't want to hear from their constituents. THAT is what Dems should be preaching from every corner, every day.

Agreed. Just got a subscription

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

Amid all the darkness and chaos, hearing Erasure on the radio felt like the sun warming me, taking me back to a time of joy. I forgot how much I loved this album (CD!) in high school. Can't decide which song is my favorite, though 🤔

If you are in danger unless you comply with a regime, you are in danger whether you comply or not

i think it is important to say that the open and explicit racism of the president and the vice president isn’t just uncouth or “controversial” but a direct attack on tens of millions of americans and a dereliction of their duty to represent the entire country

I actually wish the media would stop using "DEI" and "diversity hiring" and just get to the essence of the thing and ask: "Are you saying that this crash was caused by desegregating the races?" And see what happens.

They’re testing. It wasn’t a “glitch” that turned off Medicaid portals. They’re seeing which things they can delete without a fight. Vets benefits? Abuse shelters? Aid to children? Cancer research? They don’t care who gets hurt. Just what they can get away with. Keep. Fighting. Back.

I used to work for an elected official as the person who answered their emails. I can tell you from personal experience, if even twenty or thirty people all call an official in a day, they start panicking. This stuff does help.

a sign of a healthy and functioning democracy is that i'm getting emails from my kids' schools assuring me that the teachers are dedicated to protecting my children against the federal government

Here is how Latino men ACTUALLY voted: unidosus.org/press-releas... A majority of Hispanic men voted for Harris (56%-43%), and a supermajority of Hispanic women (66%-32%). Now let's do white people...OK.

Costco won. Al Sharpton and hundreds of supporters march into the store for a 'BUY-IN' to show support for Costco's commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

The administration took down the reproductive rights website that women need access to. So The Skimm bought a url and brought the content back. Pass this on! Go to reproductiverightsdotgov.com

The important difference between a committed nazi and someone who just likes to troll people by acting like a Nazi is that there is none.

We’re meant to calmly accept the absurd idea that any white man is innately qualified for any job or position, no matter what his education, resume or proven capabilities and any non-white man or woman inherently stole their way into employment via #DEI. This of course is pure, undiluted fascism.

Since Monday, Trump has: -Halted civil rights investigations -Suspended public health advisories -Frozen infrastructure spending on roads and bridges -Rescinded an executive order prohibiting discrimination by federal contractors How does this help working people?

As journalists we have to walk a fine line, and sensitive stories often need to pass internal legal reviews before publication. I like how Wired handled this — the headline doesn’t mince words and actually shows you how Musk’s salute is being received by Nazis www.wired.com/story/neo-na...

A handful of billionaires now have unprecedented control over banking, the food we eat, our healthcare, and the information we receive. Many are now currying favor with Trump to avoid accountability and maintain their power. This is what oligarchy looks like.

Wow. Pretty shocking behavior by the Border Patrol agent to preemptively slash a guy's tires because he wouldn't hand over his car keys.

My dudes, turn this shit off. On iOS it's under Settings > Apps > Photos > scroll all the way down.

This is a very helpful visualization. Whenever you are tempted to refuse solidarity or when people tell you that "the people" want fascism etc etc etc. There are A LOT of people who can be mobilized and organized towards something different than our current conditions.

Jimmy Carter in 2015 on the role of money in American politics: "It violates the essence of what made America a great country in its political system. Now it’s just an oligarchy, with unlimited political bribery." Spot on.

the frenzy over the hunter biden pardon is a good reminder that the press knows how to make something a scandal and has decided that nothing trump does is truly deserving of that treatment

“Don’t feed the trolls” also extends to bad opinion pieces in papers of record. They run them bc people react to them the most. If we stop linking to bad columns and instead post thinkers we find valuable (& generate convo around it), incentives change. It’s not easy and takes constant practice!

Increasingly I think that Trump is focused on his own…comfort. He’s aware of his inadequacies. It’s why he’s uncomfortable around military generals and war heroes. These picks are so profoundly unfit, so deeply lacking in sound character, I think it makes Trump feel comfortable with himself.

Family movie night - Wicked

Decided to watch Star Trek TOS again (can't remember how far I made it last time), but should I start with The Cage or skip? 🤔
