people asking “why can’t they do both?” and the answer: on tariffs/the economy the plan is to do nothing and make posts about egg prices. whereas on immigration, as von hollen has shown, there’s space to act. and really what the “it’s a distraction” camps wants is to not act

“It’s not just that Trump’s Administration is deporting people without due process. He’s deporting people without due process because he needs to sustain false claims about them, to sustain a myth about invasion that Stephen Miller used to get Trump elected.”

Age will also disable many of us. So will illness and/or injuries. Centering disability justice takes care of all of us.

“the profit-seeking of private insurance companies, supported by deregulation…shifts the financial burden of disaster risk away from insurance companies but does very little to shift it away from policyholders, and does next to nothing to reduce the underlying risk to homes from disasters.”

It shouldn't matter if Trump’s victims have criminal records. If we only defend the “innocent,” the fascists will argue that their victim “was no angel.” An anti-fascist rhetoric that carves out exceptions for imperfect victims is a gift to our opponents. New from me for @us.theguardian.com:

How is home insurance both a cost of living + climate issue? Read Housing Director @ruthygourevitch.bsky.social and fellow @moira.bsky.social explain how home insurance works, why rising rates are driven by disasters, and how to fix the system. climatecommunityinstitute.substack.com/p/the-home-i...

"With Trump, as recently as this week, mulling the transfer of “homegrown” prisoners to foreign correctional facilities, Gyamfi said that Black migrants, and all Black people living in the U.S. for that matter, should be worried about what’s to come" www.washingtoninformer.com/black-migran...

@governor.ca.gov showing yet again how despicable he is.

yes! this dude will back down to anyone who tells him to fuck himself! this is the only response worth having!

I always find it a wee bit funny and a wee bit sad when questions that BIPOC have been asking for DECADES, complete with scholarship and genres of art and industry get ignored, viewed as paranoia or anti-whiteness but then a White dude asks them and everyone's like 🤯 while we're like 😩

Why am I suddenly getting followed by a bunch of accounts in Turkish?

Love this #GoldenLoopholeAwards thread for #TaxDay2025! Brilliant satire—hilarious yet deeply disturbing. Kudos to @trillionsfortrump.bsky.social for laughing us into painful truths. Now let's #TaxTheRich and stop the #BillionaireTaxBailout!

The inhumanity demonstrated by Trump and Bukele in yesterday's meeting was outrageous but unsurprising. They have the power to return Kilmar and every soul illegally transported to El Salvador. They are choosing cruelty instead.

Undocumented immigrants paid an effective federal income tax rate of 5.27% in 2022. That means they paid a higher effective tax rate than 5 of the richest Americans…and a higher effective tax rate than 55 mega corporations. So let me ask you: who are the real freeloaders?

ok y'all, what do you turn to when all this *gestures at everything* gets you really down? I usually have a lot of resilience but it's slipping. What are your books, shows, movies that cheer you up, make you feel good, etc. I'm not looking to numb but to remind myself about the good in the world.💜

In the past year, Cleveland has found stable housing for 154 of our unhoused neighbors and 28 of their dogs. "While other cities are threatening people in encampments with arrest — and forcibly moving them — Cleveland is treating people with dignity and using a housing-first model."

I nearly cried when I called my senators @padilla.senate.gov & @schiff.senate.gov about the horrendous authoritarian escalation of this administration. When will our senators actually meet the moment and do something to protect us!?!

There’s also this weird colonial effect to suggest that the people in the prison and those who work there are illiberal and cruel beyond American understanding. Which is…you know, just racism.

Bring back *everyone* who was sent from the U.S. to CECOT in El Salvador. *No one* should be sent there. ALL their rights were violated. ALL of them should come home.

It is very good question and one I’ve been asking for months. If there is an international agreement with El Salvador for these renditions, the Trump administration is legally required under the Case-Zablocki Act to share it with Congress. To my knowledge, they have not done so.

As a former Michigander and a once and current Californian, I wholeheartedly agree.

Yet more evidence of the depravity of this admin: a 10-year-old US citizen girl with brain cancer was detained, while on the way to the hospital seeking emergency care, and deported along with her immigrant parents and her siblings who had accompanied her to the hospital. elpais.com/us/migracion...

Camus: Under conditions so desperate, the hard, marvelous task of this century is to create justice in the most unjust of worlds, and to protect freedom from those souls who, out of principle, choose servitude. If we fail, man will return to darkness. But at least we will have fought to find light.

No foundation, large nonprofit, or Democratically controlled state or local government should be doing business with any of these firms. The price of compliance must be as great as possible.

“…the FBI might need to take a hard look at my actions over the years. If Mahmoud Khalil, Rumeysa Ozturk, Yunseo Chung, Badar Khan Suri and other recent ICE detainees are considered threats to national security, then so am I.” www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

this is really so heartbreakingly bad

Yep. One of the reasons I've always bristled at former Sen. Sherrod Brown's use of "dignity of work" as a rallying cry, despite my respect for much of his record, is that it supports the idea that you're only dignified if you work, ignoring the many who physically can't work, do unpaid work, etc.

do these people just wake up in the morning and immediately kick a puppy genuinely difficult for me to comprehend this level of sociopathic evil

Appreciate someone asking a good question -- Can states pass laws to prevent county and city LEOs from making 287g agreements with DHS? The answer is yes.

But isn’t this also where the current US government is headed?

A plastic spoon’s worth of fossil fuels in our brain! 🤯
