Canadian Voter: I think who I voted for would be the best to take care of Trump, because Trump is, I’m sorry to say, an asshole.

“The government’s planning and infrastructure bill is the worst assault on England’s ecosystems in living memory. It erases decades of environmental protections, including inherited EU legislation which even the Tories promised to uphold.” Please read & share. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

This statement about the transphobic Supreme Court ruling by the UK's Crab Museum (yes a museum about crabs) is better than 99% of the statements I've seen on the topic www.crabmuseum.org/visit 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀

Excuse the Daily Fail link but this is interesting. The email you need for this is [email protected] and include the names and publishers of the books you want included in a lawsuit. Ex-Waitrose boss takes on Mark Zuckerberg after AI 'steals his books' www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article...

Happy birthday to Sean Bean who, despite dying multiple times, turns 66 today. To celebrate here’s a compilation of him as Sharpe saying ‘bastard’. Enjoy. youtu.be/tE8d-uGmIWk?...

Tech execs declaring all-out war on creators who don’t want their life’s work pillaged for profit

Everyone raised on the AP Style Guide is having a moment with this one, thank you @ellecordova.bsky.social

If you don't already have this channel on your radar, it's fascinating and fun! Arim, who is Assyrian, recreates recipes from cuneiform tablets. Here, he makes an ancient Assyrian cake with the help of a scholar, food scientist, and baker. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qdps...

YES. This.

The irony, that Meta wouldn’t open its doors to take a 500 word letter of complaint from writers, when they’d already taken millions of words from us. Apparently they’ve got enough now. Thanks.

I’ll be asking META to #DoTheWriteThing on Thursday 3 April ✍️ To help spread the word and protect writers of every kind, please join us in flooding social media with this important message! @societyofauthors.bsky.social

Reading is a radical act. Every time a child picks up a book, new possibilities open up that were not there before. And it has the biggest positive impact of all factors on children's life chances! Every time you help a kid to read for pleasure, you will change their lives FOREVER. #literacy #books

Signing everything in the vain hope the government might actually listen and not sign the rights to my life's work over to tech grifters

Today is Joseph Campbell's birthday. I first read "The Hero With a Thousand Faces" in 1974 when I was an undergraduate at the U. of Virginia. Yes, there is the Hero's Journey, but there is so much more to Campbell than that. Here are 9 of his quotes. gointothestory.blcklst.com/happy-birthd...

Elbows up, Canada.

And we haven't even mentioned what happens when we put Canadian women on the ice.

“The Americans want our resources, our water, our land, our country" and if successful they would "destroy our way of life", says Canada's next Prime Minister Mark Carney. Says Canada is always ready when gloves are "dropped" & America should make "no mistake" - in trade & hockey, "Canada will win"

You've been asking yourself "where is the Canadian guy"? But you knew he would show up just when we needed him. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ozb...

When Mike Myers wore his "Canada Is Not For Sale" t-shirt on SNL, he mouthed a secret code: "elbows up." It's a reference to the great Gordie "Mr. Elbows" Howe who punished those that messed with his team. You heard him Canada: elbows up. If anyone asks why, tell them that Mike Myers sent you.

"And you totally know how to paint a baby?" Artist: Yup "You're sure?" Artist: Don't worry about it "You know what a baby looks like?" Artist: Yes "It's just you always paint babies like they're 40yr old blokes called Colin" Artist: Not this time

This is such a great question that I think it deserves a whole thread. The cuneiform writing system included numbers, and we know how to say the names of many of these numbers in both Akkadian and Sumerian (languages that cuneiform was used to write). Let's start with Sumerian.

Here’s a handy ‘Boycott US Brands’ list from my homeland Canada, where we don’t take s**t from gangster regimes. #truenorthstrongandfree
